I am heartbroken by the news of the two servicemembers in Jordan that lost their lives defending against Iranian aggression. Our men and women in uniform represent the very best of our nation and show extraordinary courage in doing their part to protect our national security. I pray for the families of these fallen heroes, the servicemember who remains missing, and all of those that continue to be threatened by this Iranian regime. The United States must stand firmly behind those who volunteer to serve our country and remain committed to ensuring Iran never possesses a nuclear weapon.

Hampton Roads is the heart of our nation’s maritime strength, and Norfolk Naval Shipyard is critical to keeping our Navy the greatest fighting force in the world. I was grateful to join staff and servicemembers in touring @NNSYNews and the USS Ford last week to learn more about how Congress can support and grow our area’s shipbuilding industry. Recently I visited #OperationPurpleCamp hosted by the National Military Family Association sample association where our military children go to summer camp at no cost! Programs like this provide military-connected children with opportunities to build friendships, make fun summer memories, and connect with others who share similar military family experiences. Our country has lost a dedicated and devoted public servant with the passing of Senator Lindsey Graham. For over 30 years in Congress, Senator Graham was a steadfast advocate for a strong national defense, unwavering support for our servicemembers, and American leadership on the world stage. His decades of service and commitment to our nation will be dearly missed. My prayers are with Senator Graham’s family, friends, and staff during this difficult time.

Yesterday, I joined local and state leaders on Virginia’s Eastern Shore at Dublin Farms for the Bushwick Commission’s annual Virginia Grown promotion. It was great to see firsthand how the partnership between Dublin Farms and Walmart helps bring fresh, Virginia-grown potatoes from the Eastern Shore to families across the country while supporting innovation in agriculture. Thank you to Dublin Farms, the Bushwick Commission, @Walmart, and @virginia_tech for your partnership and for recognizing the hardworking men and women who feed our nation. Virginia’s Eastern Shore is home to some of the best farmers anywhere, and I’m proud to support their work.

I join our community in mourning the loss of Cmdr. Gabriel Edwards who was identified as missing from an MH-60 Seahawk mishap in the Arabian Sea. Cmdr. Edwards made the ultimate sacrifice while commanding HSC-5 in support of military operations in the Middle East, and we will be forever grateful for his service to our nation. We thank the Sailors and Airmen who worked tirelessly over the past several days to support recovery efforts, and we continue to hold Cmdr. Our nation is forever indebted to the generations of extraordinary military working animals that have served our country. From the horses that proved essential in military strategy to the nearly 6,000 canines that continue to play a role in drug interdiction and bomb detection, their roles have made our servicemembers safe.
