We all need to be talking about Trump’s proposed $1.5 trillion war budget! At a time when families are paying more to put food on the table, gas in the car, and get the healthcare they deserve, this budget proposal is a giveaway to defense contractors at the expense of the American people.

Today, I voted YES on the latest War Powers Resolution to end Trump's illegal war in Iran. The Constitution is clear: only Congress has the power to declare war. Unfortunately, not enough House Republicans voted for this and it failed. The American people are tired of presidents abusing their power by spending billions of our taxpayer dollars on unnecessary wars. I’ve been fighting for these basic checks and balances for years and will continue to defend our Constitution.

Last fall, the Trump administration issued an Orwellian directive called NSPM-7 which would allow them to investigate anyone they deem to be "anti-Christian," "anti-capitalist," or "anti-American," for domestic terrorism. Those are vague and undefined terms, and this directive is a clear effort to silence criticism and dissent by infringing on Americans' freedom of speech. Today, I offered an amendment to the Commerce, Justice, & Science funding bill to prohibit the Trump administration from targeting any person or organization solely for exercising their constitutionally-protected First Amendment rights. Every Republican in Committee voted no.

Republicans in Congress let the ACA tax credits expire. Now premiums have skyrocketed, and more than one in five Americans enrolled in an ACA plan simply can’t pay. We need to bring back the tax credits and make healthcare more affordable for every American!

I was supposed to volunteer with @DCHSgiveshelter & @beaglefreedom to rescue the remaining beagles at Ridglan Farms. However, their attorney told me that I wasn’t welcome on their property. Last minute, I went to thank the volunteers from both groups for their work. I’ll continue to fight for loving homes for all these dogs and all the remaining dogs until facilities like these no longer exist.

Had a good conversation with senior officials in @SecKennedy’s office about making sure that facilities like Ridglan Farms can never misuse dogs again. I believe he agrees, but action is required. He can do this. If a facility has serious violations it should be shut down, period.

When I’m in Wisconsin meeting with constituents, I don’t hear a single person tell me that they want to spend their hard-earned money on a $1 billion golden ballroom. What I do hear over and over is the rising costs of gas, groceries, healthcare, and housing. This Administration promised to lower costs. They failed.
