Happy #Juneteenth! Today is a reminder that emancipation was not a moment — it was a movement. We have made progress towards making the ideal of liberty and justice for all a reality, but today that progress is under attack. Juneteenth gives us the opportunity to celebrate how far we have come and recommit to making the ideals upon which this country was founded true for everyone.

This #Pride, I stand alongside our queer friends and neighbors as an ally and voice in Congress to protect equality under the law. Today, I joined @EqualityVA and other LGBTQ+ organizations and advocates at @lphrva to spread joy and hear their concerns firsthand.

This year, I brought over $10 million in funding for community projects in Virginia’s Fourth District. Today, I presented just over $1 million each to the cities of Colonial Heights and Petersburg for water infrastructure improvements.

An important tool to collect, analyze and share foreign intelligence information on terrorists and other foreign targets, Section 702 of FISA has been weaponized to spy on American citizens in violation of their Fourth Amendment rights. Congressional Republicans let it expire rather than adopt reforms to improve accountability and balance privacy concerns with our national security priorities. Over the weekend, I discussed my reasons for voting no on a two-week extension bill on @PoliticsNation.

Fourteen years ago, the United States made a commitment to allow undocumented immigrants brought to this country as children to work, study and pursue their dreams. Today, DACA recipients face tremendous fear and uncertainty as hundreds have been deported since the start of the second Trump Administration. DREAMers contribute to the strength and vitality of our nation, and deserve fairness, dignity, and due process. That’s why I’m cosponsoring the American Dream and Promise Act of 2025 to protect eligible DREAMers from unlawful deportation and provide a clear pathway to Lawful Permanent Resident status, and eventual U.S. citizenship.

Over 25 years ago, the FDA approved mifepristone as a safe and effective drug for abortion and miscarriage management. Yet, Republicans across the country are trying to use the 19th-century Comstock Act to prevent access by mail. Two years ago, the Supreme Court stopped one such effort in FDA v. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine, but the pending Louisiana v. FDA case could reverse course.  As Chair of the Abortion Access and Rights Task Force in the @ReproCaucus, I’m fighting to repeal the abortion-related provisions of the Comstock Act so everyone can get the reproductive care they need when they need it.

Today marks 59 years since Loving v. Virginia, when the SCOTUS struck down Virginia’s ban on interracial marriage as violating the 14th Amendment.  As a state senator in 2020, I was proud to pass legislation finally repealing the Racial Integrity Act of 1924, which included that ban.  Now in Congress, I’m continuing the fight to end racial discrimination and preserve marriage equality.  #LovingDay
