Amber Nicole Thurman should be alive today. Republican abortion bans cost her life-saving care, and eventually her life. Her story is not an anomaly. We're fighting every day to save lives & fight for abortion care that is accessible & treated as the essential healthcare it is.

Black mamas deserve better. That's why I co-founded the Congressional Mamas' Caucus and why we hosted a conversation on advancing Black maternal health. In Georgia, Black mothers are nearly three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than their white counterparts—and more than 80% of those deaths are preventable. We cannot accept that. I welcomed fellow Georgian Shanette Williams, whose daughter, Amber Thurman, died because of Georgia's abortion ban and delayed care. Shanette has turned unimaginable grief into advocacy through the Amber Thurman Foundation, reminding us that behind every statistic is a family forever changed. Thank you to my co-chair Congresswoman Tlaib, our panelists, and everyone who joined us as we continue fighting for policies that protect Black mothers, expand access to reproductive health care, and save lives. In the #TheFightingFifth and across our country, Black maternal health is a crisis we have the power—and responsibility—to address.

I commanded a moment of silence on the House floor to honor the women who have died because they were denied essential abortion care. Everyday I will continue to fight for reproductive freedom in their name. Abortion care is a human right.

Maya Angelou once said, “There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.” I'm grateful to those who shared their abortion story with me & re-affirmed why abortion care is essential. Together, we're fighting for every person to have access to the care they need.

Four years ago this week, six Supreme Court justices overturned Roe v. Wade and took away a fundamental American freedom from millions of women. Today, right-wing politicians are working overtime to further restrict abortion rights. Every American must be free to make their own healthcare decisions.

Four years after Roe v. Wade was overturned, around half of women across our country lack access to safe, legal abortions. Women should always have the freedom to make their own healthcare decisions. I will continue to expand reproductive care access and fight to re-establish Roe.

This week marks four years since the Dobbs decision, and reproductive freedom remains under relentless attack. SCOTUS didn’t just overturn Roe - it opened the door to roll back privacy and autonomy for everyone, everywhere. Thank you to @AbortionAccNow for coming in to discuss our ongoing work. For 60 years, @nationalnow has engaged in intersectional grassroots activism advancing gender equality, defending reproductive freedom and fighting for racial and economic justice for all. As they gathered in Virginia for their annual conference on the 250th anniversary of the birth of our nation, I reflected on their important role in making the ideals upon which it was founded a reality for all.

Dobbs ripped away a constitutional right and put politics between patients and doctors. Four years later, as extremists continue their campaign to ban abortion nationwide, we continue fighting back to protect the right to reproductive freedom and bodily autonomy.

Four years ago today, the Supreme Court's decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization took away the constitutional right to abortion, leaving millions of women without control over their health care decisions. These attacks on reproductive freedom are unacceptable, and I won't stop fighting until every woman has the right to make her own choices for her body.

Taysha Wilkinson-Sobieski was 26 years old, a newlywed and mom from IN who should still be here. Instead, the state placed the will of politicians over the value of life. Abortion bans end lives. Taysha deserved to get the care she needed before it was too late. We remember.

Porsha Ngumezi was 35 years old, a wife and mother. Her life was cut short after Texas abortion ban.   She should be remembered for the life she lived, not for becoming another example of what happens when politicians stand between patients and their doctors.   We remember.

Amber Nicole Thurman was 28 years old, a young mom and aspiring nurse, when Georgia's abortion ban blocked her from getting the urgent care she needed. Her mother, Shanette, joins us in Washington today to share her story and honor her memory. We remember.

Four years after the Dobbs decision, reproductive freedom remains under attack across the country. People, not politicians, deserve the right to make their own health care decisions. I am a proud member of the @ReproCaucus and I remain committed to restoring abortion access, protecting reproductive rights, and ensuring families can access the care they need.

Mothers across this country know how complicated pregnancy is, and that no two are the same. Four years after the Dobbs decision, women are dying from sepsis, hemorrhage, and ectopic pregnancy complications. I've never met a woman who was flippant about the decision to have an abortion. But I have met plenty of politicians who are flippant about taking that decision away from women and their doctors, even when it can mean life or death.

Four years after the Dobbs decision, access to reproductive health care remains under threat in many parts of the country. Millions of women still face barriers to care. I remain committed to protecting and ensuring access to health care for women in the Central Valley and across the nation. #DobbsAnniversary
