What I saw today in Newark is a scene I never imagined experiencing in my lifetime. But I refuse to believe today reflects who we are as a country. We must all commit to correcting the course our country is on. Standing side by side, I know we can achieve those better tomorrows - together.

Last night I arrived at Delaney Hall to conduct an unannounced oversight visit after hearing a constituent was facing potential transfer or deportation for his role in the recent strike. I was denied entry, but I have remained on-site throughout the night. I was told that I would be able to go inside at 8am, but ICE continues to deny entry. I will provide updates soon. Thank you to all the families and volunteers who have stood in solidarity throughout the night.

A new Brookings report shows over 145,000 U.S. citizen children have had a parent taken into detention since Trump took office. No one is safe in Trump's America—not even our children. We conducted a surprise oversight visit at Delaney Hall with @RepLaMonica and @RepAnalilia after receiving a letter signed by nearly 300 people inside about the abhorrent conditions. What we saw confirms the worst: absolutely nothing has changed since our first visit to DH over a year ago. In fact, it's only getting worse. DH needs to be shut down - now.

I don’t know a single constituent who supports the Trump Admin taking nearly $2 billion of your hard-earned tax dollars to pay out Jan. 6 insurrectionists & to protect Trump’s inner circle. First, DHS claimed they didn’t know where Adriana was. Now, they say they can’t bring her back because of the Ebola outbreak in the DRC (a crisis the Trump Admin exacerbated by cutting USAID funding). There are zero reported Ebola cases in Kinshasa where Adriana is currently being held. Deeply saddened to hear news of a shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego. Our hearts are with the victims, their families, and the entire community. No one should ever feel unsafe in a place of worship or learning. We must remain absolutely unyielding in our fight against Islamophobia anywhere and everywhere it exists.

The Trump Administration is taking people in our communities with protected status and sending them to countries that cannot support them. We will fight this Administration every step of the way.

Families shouldn't have to struggle to put food on the table. While food insecurity has long been a challenge we've been working to address as a country, Trump and Republicans are actively making a crisis worse by cutting critical lifelines like SNAP. Deepening this hardship is entirely preventable.
