Every life deserves equal justice. Whether your immigration status is documented or undocumented, the Constitution guarantees due process. Justice is decided in our courts—not by a masked ICE agent on the streets.

The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Leadership is demanding answers. @repespaillat @repsylviagarcia @repdarrensoto @repsalinas @repmenendez @NormaJTorres @repgilcisneros @joaquincastrotx Following the fatal shooting of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo during an ICE enforcement operation in Houston, CHC Leadership has sent a letter to DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin and Acting ICE Director Todd Venturella demanding a full, independent, and transparent investigation. This tragedy raises serious questions about the conduct of federal immigration enforcement operations and the growing consequences of the Administration’s escalation tactics. Communities deserve accountability, transparency, and policies that protect public safety and human dignity—not fear. We will continue to press for answers, oversight, and meaningful reforms at DHS.

ICE shot and killed Lorenzo Salgado Araujo in our community. His family deserves answers. After hearing from families and advocates regarding an AC outage in one of the units at Delaney Hall, our office immediately demanded answers from ICE. ICE has claimed that while work continues to fix the broken AC unit, alternate air-conditioned spaces and portable ACs are being made available. We are continuing to press ICE to ensure that this matter is addressed with the urgency required during this extreme heat wave and will do so until air conditioning is restored.

We have received constituent calls regarding the HVAC situation at Delaney Hall and are following up with ICE to ensure it is remedied. ICE is responsible for the health and safety of detainees under its custody, and we will take all steps to ensure that responsibility is taken seriously. nj.com/politics/2026/…

You pay, Trump plays.

Just hours after the devastating earthquakes in Venezuela that killed over 1,900 people, ICE attempted to deport children and families from the Dilley Trailer Prison to Venezuela. They were woken up in the middle of the night and sent to Arizona on their way to Venezuela. The families were ultimately sent back to Dilley but worry that they could be deported at any time. It is unthinkable to send children and families, who have committed no crimes, into a country plunged into chaos by natural disaster. Last week, 146 men, women, and children were deported back home to Venezuela hours before the earthquakes—many are suspected to have been killed. These actions are cruel and un-American. I am calling on the Trump Administration to halt all deportations to Venezuela and to shut down the Dilley Trailer Prison.

Last year, I spoke at the Rules Committee about how Trump's Big Beautiful Bill would take from working people to give to billionaires. Congressional Republicans passed it anyway. Now, millions have lost healthcare and food assistance and are paying the price for their greed.
