Spoke on the House floor yesterday to stand in solidarity with the hardworking men and women of the United Steelworkers who have been locked out of their jobs for almost two months at the BP facility in Whiting.  I continue to call on BP to lift the lockout and return to good-faith negotiations that put skilled union workers back on the job.

The proposed funding restrictions to the Housing Counseling Grant program will hinder the delivery of effective homeowner and rental counseling services in Northwest Indiana and across the country.  As communities nationwide face skyrocketing housing and utilities costs, we must ensure that this critical program continues to be able to assist families, seniors, and individuals achieve stable and affordable housing. mrvan.house.gov/media/press-re…

Happy Mother’s Day Northwest Indiana!

As we conclude Teacher Appreciation Week, I wanted to share my gratitude to all of the outstanding teachers in Northwest Indiana for your invaluable service and inspiration to the future leaders of our region.

Below is my discussion with NASA Administrator Isaacman from our recent House Appropriations Subcommittee hearing, in which I highlighted the exemplary work occurring at our region’s institutions of higher education and the @ChallengerNWI.

Enjoyed meeting recently with the leaders and members of the Indiana Fire Chiefs Association. Thank you for your leadership and vital work to promote firefighter wellness and public safety in our communities.

Political violence has absolutely no place in our communities and social discourse, and we must do more to promote civility and understanding in our public affairs.  Thank you to all of the members of the Secret Service and first responders for your readiness and swift action at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

Below is my discussion with Secretary of Commerce Lutnick on working together to urge BP to end the lockout and negotiate in good faith to put our skilled union workforce back on the job.

Below are my remarks introducing an amendment to require all steel used in construction projects at the White House to be produced in the United States. While I regret that this amendment was not ultimately approved as introduced, I will continue to seek every opportunity through the House Appropriations Committee and as Vice Chairman of the Congressional Steel Caucus to strengthen Buy America requirements and fight for our domestic workforce.

Thank you to all of the leaders and employees of Central States for taking time to show me around your Michigan City facility. I am grateful for your vital contributions to the strength of our regional economy and manufacturing capabilities.
