They’re putting the lives of countless women and babies at risk every day that stay is in place.

At today’s Hall of Heroes at the Pentagon, we honored Major Edwin Stanfield and Major Ryan Reynolds of West Virginia for their bravery during last November’s terrorist attack, where they raced toward the sound of gunfire to save their fellow guardsmen.
Today, they received the Airman’s and Soldier’s Medals for their bravery.
We remember Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, who gave her life serving our country, and pray in gratitude for Andy Wolfe’s incredible recovery.
Their courage reflects the best of West Virginia.

I am grateful to the appropriations committee for adopting my amendment to officially allow all Catholic veterans to choose the crucifix as a symbol on their gravestones.

A constituent from Venice recently brought an issue to our office that Catholic veterans are currently unable to have a crucifix on their headstone at VA cemeteries. So I led a letter to the VA urging this policy change and got 45 colleagues to sign in support! And now the House is already taking steps to direct the VA to make the change. Our veterans fought for this country. They should be laid to rest with the dignity and honor they so rightfully deserve, including the ability for Catholic veterans to have a crucifix on their headstone. The VA offers more than 100 headstone symbols—for atheists, pagans, humanists, Muslims, Hindus, and dozens of Christian denominations.
But not for the crucifix and the nearly 1 in 5 veterans who are Catholic.
@RepRileyMoore just secured an amendment to the 2027 VA funding bill to fix it. Long overdue.
