When I served in the Idaho Legislature, one thing was always abundantly clear—legislation and debate must always be limited to a single subject. It goes without saying, but in D.C., that is not how things are run, and I believe that needs to change. I have reintroduced the One Subject at a Time Act, H.R. 4324, which will focus every bill the U.S. Congress considers on a single subject, ensuring each topic receives a separate vote. Last night’s Budget Resolution paves the way to fully fund Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Patrol (CBP), while ending the dangerous, politically-motivated shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)—which has now eclipsed 70 days. This objective should not have to be achieved through the reconciliation process. However, my colleagues on the other side of the aisle have made it clear they are willing to put partisan politics ahead of paying the men and women who are responsible for keeping our homeland safe. S. Con. Res. 33. ensures these critical agencies are fully funded through the end of the current administration’s term. I voted in favor.

Without a robust warrant requirement, I cannot support renewing Section 702 of FISA. To access the data of American citizens, intelligence agencies must be required to obtain a warrant. For this reason, I voted no.

It was great to meet with the Pacific Northwest Waterways Association (PNWA) during their annual Mission to D.C. The work they do is vital to keeping our waterways efficient and strengthening trade, energy, and navigation across the PNW. I am grateful for the forum to discuss the issues most important to our region and communities!

🌋 @RepRussFulcher’s “CLEAN Act” amends the Geothermal Steam Act of 1970 to require the Secretary of the Interior to hold geothermal energy lease sales annually. It also implements timelines for permit applications.

I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Governor Dirk Kempthorne. Dirk was a dear friend, a trusted mentor, and a devoted public servant. From his time as Mayor of Boise to his service as a U.S. Senator, Governor of Idaho, and Secretary of the Interior, he worked selflessly on behalf of America and our Idaho. I will always cherish his wisdom, steadfast friendship, and Christian example. My prayers and deepest condolences are with his wife, Patricia, and their children. Rest in peace, friend.

It was a pleasure to join the Idaho Recreation Council in Boise at their Outdoor Recreation Summit. Conversations like these—convening leaders from across the Gem State—are what will help ensure our beautiful lands remain vibrant and available for future generations.

Congratulations to Myles Hardy, the winner of the 2025 Congressional App Challenge for Idaho’s First Congressional District! I had a chance to meet with him and his family this week in D.C. to learn more about his online game, “Planelooly,” which is centered around designing passenger airline routes. I’m proud to see the next generation of Idahoans take the initiative to explore their creativity by diving into coding and computer science—skills that will strengthen our communities and help shape the future!

Active forest management is key to reducing wildfire risk and protecting our communities. That is exactly what the bipartisan Fix Our Forests Act—legislation I proudly voted in favor of on the House floor—helps accomplish by streamlining the federal logging and thinning project process and strengthening coordination between federal, state, tribal, and local partnerships. I appreciated the opportunity to meet with fire chiefs from across Idaho this week to discuss this important measure and how Congress can best support our first responders as they confront the growing threat of catastrophic wildfires. They are the heroes of our communities!

Hungary became the tip of the spear in the fight against globalism under Viktor Orbán, and an invaluable ally to the United States. Recently, I had the honor to meet with Hungary’s leadership and discuss Orbán’s successful pillars of Peace, Sovereignty, Freedom, and Security. It’s my hope that their new leadership will see the value in maintaining these principles. In Congress, I will continue to support a strong, enduring U.S.-Hungary relationship that perpetuates freedom of speech and sovereignty of nations. This partnership is more pertinent now than ever given unfolding events around the world and America’s relationship with its traditional allies.

I am proud to be an original co-sponsor of the Build More Hydro Act. Hydropower is foundational to the Northwest’s power system, providing nearly 50% of our annual electricity generation. I am glad to see this legislation clear the House, ensuring this source of affordable, clean, and reliable energy remains available to communities across our region.

Geothermal has the potential to be a powerhouse for America. This clean, abundant resource can provide families with affordable, reliable electricity while diversifying our nation’s power portfolio and strengthening American energy independence. I am very pleased to see my bipartisan legislation, the CLEAN Act, H.R. 1687, clear committee, and I look forward to getting it on the House floor for passage.

I cannot in good conscience support authorizing multiple government channels to have broad, warrantless surveillance authority over Americans. When it comes to U.S. citizens, intelligence agencies should be required to obtain a warrant.
