65 years ago, the first Freedom Riders set out on a journey to change our nation for the better by challenging segregation and demanding justice for Americans across the country. They faced brutal violence, arrests, and intimidation, but never backed down, and because of their courage, they helped force real change and brought us closer to the promise of equality. We honor their legacy by continuing the work to bring our nation closer to a more just future for all.

Rite Aid closures & national drug shortages hit our community hard. Proud to return to my alma mater, @DYouville University, to announce $338K in federal funding for a new compound medication lab! We're filling the gap to ensure patients get the lifesaving meds they need. 💊

Generations of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islanders have strengthened communities across the country and continue to shape our nation’s future with their leadership, culture, and resilience. During #AANHPIHeritageMonth we celebrate their lasting contributions, uplift their voices, and recommit to building a country where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

May marks the beginning of National Stroke Awareness Month.  Every 40 seconds, someone in the US has a stroke, yet 80% of strokes are preventable. As an OT, I saw the real-life impacts that strokes can have on patients. It is crucial that we continue to raise awareness on strokes, educate the public, and fund stroke research.

This #SmallBusinessWeek, we are standing with local entrepreneurs anchoring our communities while calling out the chaos they’ve been forced to navigate because of Donald Trump’s disastrous tariff policy.  These tariffs have added billions of dollars in costs, constant uncertainty, and impossible choices for small businesses – forcing many to raise prices, cut staff, or close their doors altogether. It is flat-out economic sabotage. Small businesses deserve stability, fairness, and a government that has their back and @HouseDemocrats are committed to delivering that.

I was pleased to join the 2026 Autism Walk for the Summit Center’s vital programs and resources that support WNYers with autism. The Summit Center aids over 1,000 people every year with expert resources dedicated to community, education, and health support, among other programs.  Their work is making a real difference for individuals and families across Western New York, and it’s on all of us to continue showing up, raising awareness, and ensuring these essential services remain strong for years to come.

Wednesday’s Supreme Court decision is abhorrent and dangerous for our democracy. Americans across the country are demanding that their voices be heard. Instead, Donald Trump's right-wing Supreme Court has given the green light for states to silence those voices, pushing working families further to the wayside. We cannot ignore our history. Generations of Americans have fought and sacrificed so much to secure the fundamental right to vote. But, Trump and Congressional Republicans are doing everything in their power to take this country backwards. Democrats will not let this stand. Organizations like the @NAACP will not let this stand. We will continue the work of those who came before us, fighting to ensure that every eligible American can freely exercise their right to vote.

For 76 days, Republicans kept the Department of Homeland Security shuttered, risking national security, jeopardizing pay for TSA workers, and halting essential missions at FEMA. And for more than a month, House Republicans refused to pass a bipartisan funding bill the Senate approved unanimously, intentionally holding hostage FEMA, TSA, and Coast Guard personnel just so they could first secure billions more in funding for ICE to continue the violent assault on our communities. After overseeing the longest shutdown in history, Speaker Johnson has finally allowed this funding bill to pass, proving once again the Republican Majority cannot govern.

Proud doesn't begin to cover it. Yesterday, Team Kennedy intern Mia Anderson testified before the DC Council Health Committee on food access and brought Buffalo with her. May 14th, 2022, shook our city, but it didn't break us. Buffalonians turned grief into action: demanding gun violence prevention, real investment in Black and brown neighborhoods, and a future where no family goes hungry. Mia carried that fight to Washington. She elevated voices too often ignored and made the case that healthy, affordable food isn't a privilege, it's a right. The next generation is ready. Mia is proof.

Tough result for the Sabres yesterday, but Buffalo showed up the way Buffalo always does. Good sportsmanship. Good neighbors. A broken mic won't stop us from telling our Canadian friends what they already know: you're always welcome on this side of the Niagara. nytimes.com/2026/04/29/spo…

Today, the Supreme Court will hear arguments that will determine the future of Temporary Protected Status. TPS is a critical program that provides many immigrants an opportunity to live and work in the U.S. while conditions in their home countries remain unsafe for them to return. If there’s anything we have learned from the Trump Administration’s vicious, unprecedented, and illegal ICE raids, it is that the President and Congressional Republicans care more about enforcing brutality than uplifting American communities or protecting the American dream. Enough is enough.

On April 29th, 1945, the U.S. army successfully liberated the prisoners of the Dachau concentration camp. For 12 years, nearly 200,000 individuals faced brutality, inhumane medical experiments, forced labor, and death under imprisonment at Dachau. Today, we honor the survivors and those who lost their lives. Never again.

Yesterday, I joined @RepTerriSewell and @RepArrington to celebrate the passage of the Nancy Gardner Sewell MCED Act. This critical bipartisan legislation will give seniors access to groundbreaking innovation and transform how we detect, diagnose, and treat cancer. I was proud to cosponsor this bill and support my dear friend, Rep. Sewell, in honoring her mother, Nancy Gardner Sewell. I am excited to see how this legislation will benefit our seniors in WNY and across the nation.

House Republicans are playing politics with our national security, prolonging a record-long shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security. At Trump’s direction, they are refusing to bring a bipartisan bill that unanimously passed the Senate to the floor, legislation that would reopen DHS and fund critical programs. Instead, they’re pushing a partisan scheme that guts essential services and hands ICE another blank check. This is a failure of leadership. It’s dangerous, and Americans deserve better.

In Trump’s America, working families in Western New York, and across the country, are getting squeezed. Gas, groceries, housing, utilities, healthcare, and basic necessities are all more expensive. Trump and Congressional Republicans said they’d lower costs on day one. Instead, they’ve used their power to implement illegal tariffs, cut taxes for their billionaire donors, and start a disastrous war of choice in the Middle East – taking thousands of dollars out of your pocket. While the GOP protects the Epstein class, @HouseDemocrats are fighting to lower costs and put working families first.

Great way to start the day at the @NotreDame Washington Office with alumni, friends, and some incredibly impressive students from the Student Policy Network. These young leaders are already tackling big challenges, from affordable housing and AI to human rights, environmental protection, and labor rights – doing it with the kind of rigor and purpose we need more of in public service. As a proud Irish American and public servant, I couldn’t be more encouraged. The future is in good hands when the next generation is this engaged, thoughtful, and committed to building a better country.

Yesterday, I joined the @preventcancer to discuss the Congressional Families Program. This program expands opportunities for early detection screenings and outreach – two of the most important ways to raise awareness of cancer. As an occupational therapist, I’ve seen firsthand the hardships cancer has on patients and their families. We are all touched by cancer, which is why I am a proud supporter of the Congressional Families Program.
