Our law enforcement officers and first responders represent some of the best and bravest among us. These men and women selflessly put their lives on the line every day to keep us safe. If these law enforcement officers and first responders perish in the line of duty, that sacrifice deserves the highest level of recognition. The Medal of Sacrifice stands as a tribute to the law enforcement officers and first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to others.

Bill Posey was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and public servant who dedicated his career to giving back to his Florida community — from the Rockledge City Council and the Florida State House and Senate to the U.S. House of Representatives. As representative for Florida’s 8th Congressional District, he was a strong advocate for the Space Coast region and made a lasting impact as a member of the Financial Services and Science, Space, and Technology Committees. Bill was a genuinely good man and a faithful friend, and we are blessed to have served alongside him. Kelly and I join in mourning this great loss, and our prayers are with his wife and high school sweetheart Katie, his family, and loved ones during this difficult time.
