@MadScientist_42 @abachurin @MarkChangizi The original poster intended for children to be included. The first clue to this is that they used the term "everyone". Children fall into the group everyone. Pretend that's not the case, but you'd be wrong. Verifiably wrong. "What if kids are exempt?" Is a different question.

— The Suicide Button — No need for a Red button at all. Just have a single (Blue) button labeled, “Press me to commit suicide by midnight.” And then in fine print it says, “Guaranteed to work unless more than 50% of humans end up pressing their button.” Are you suggesting it’s now selfish to not press the button? Because that’s exactly the Red button answer in the equivalent Res/Blue button case.

Performative altruism is a huge problem. The correct answer to this poll is red. If you answer red, you live. Everyone should thus answer red, and everyone lives. There is zero reason for a single person to press blue, if every person is saved by pressing red, and a blue vote is a toss up if you get killed or not. But people who want to feel morally superior about themselves are choosing the answer they see as altruistic, even though it is objectively incorrect and will get them and others killed. Translate this to the real world and things like criminal justice. Morons allow the axe murderer free, because they want to feel merciful. “Look at me, aren’t I just so magnanimous!”

why would anyone even press blue?!?

@RepliesAreFree @BeanerOfSnow @bobizgrate @hyperliberalism OK, read what you posted very slowly and very carefully and hopefully it starts to become clear how ridiculous the question is in the first place. It’s not an accurate reflection of reality, not even close, and thus not an accurate gauge of people’s morality.

The actual takeaway is that humans can fail at moral reasoning in reliable ways, and this is how you get communism. Communism is evil, and anyone trying to do a communism is equally evil. (Also, everyone picks red once you rephrase the question—which is 100% allowed.)
rohit@krishnanrohit

The funniest part about this poll is that people keep asking it, the majority keeps choosing blue, and a minority keeps getting upset that they're choosing wrong. At some point maybe you should revise your theory?

@real_irl_nigga @robertlasagna1 Your point that the third world will probably vote blue? The one you're using to deflect from the mass toddler deaths? 51% or more blue is the only option that avoids mass, world altering death. Fact. That's my point.

I retract what I said yesterday. The actual divide in the button bullshit is between people who see a hypothetical and treat it as a logic puzzle or a game, because it is a clickbait on the Internet, and they remain detached and treat it as what it is, and remain cognisant of their and everyone else's relationship to the question, "we are all posting about it on the Internet", and people who become *immersed* in the question, and treat everyone else as part of the thought experiment, in their head, and go insane and make incredibly rude claims about the other people talking about it, because they are narcissist projectioning their own cruelty, "the only way I would vote red would be if I wanted to kill", and then it goes back and forth between two imaginary isles that don't actually exist, but are just a blob of people hallucinating that there is a big evil team out to get them and they are all in on it together

@real_irl_nigga @robertlasagna1 The vast majority of reds are modifying the circumstances to fit their needs. Calling it my interpretation is a deflection from the fact that my "interpretation" satisfies the original question. Yours requires changing the definition of "everyone" to move the needle.

@RepliesAreFree @robertlasagna1 Then your interpretation is actually a question about geopolitics. So yet again, your white saviour complex isn't going to get you far in the face of third worlders who don't suffer from suicidal empathy Therefore it's not a question worth posing, the answer is known and it's red

@abachurin @MarkChangizi They're changing it to validate and justify a pretty stupid move on their part, trying to use children in a disgusting and rather evil manner to guilt you into changing your mind and to assuage that reality that they fucked themselves and badly there.

@bobizgrate @StreetCitizen @hyperliberalism Brother there are half a dozen polls involving blenders and wood chippers and poison pills, anything to make the potential death less abstract, and every single one blue tops out at <20%. Explain to the average person they might actually for real die, they're not picking blue

@real_irl_nigga @robertlasagna1 First, my scenario isn't warped, it's the actually scenario. Which is what causes the debate. If the choice was easy there'd be no debate. The person who wrote it intended toddlers to be included. Everyone is included. You're changing the rules to make your choice easier.

@real_irl_nigga @robertlasagna1 Fair. I disagree. I think that is the purpose. Realizing 51%+ blue is the best outcome, but knowing red guarantees you live is the entire dilemma. For the reds, most people are still hoping the blues win, they're just not willing to contribute to it if there's personal risk

@MibbyLegend @real_irl_nigga @robertlasagna1 There's 120 million 2 year olds worldwide. That's one group who, even with the same information, has an almost zero chance of understanding their choice, and thus is choosing for another reason or completely randomly.

@MibbyLegend @real_irl_nigga @robertlasagna1 I view that as the point. If toddlers are included (which they are), every parent is more inclined to push blue, to increase their kids odds. If toddlers are excluded, every parent is choosing red to ensure they stay with their kid, and red dominates easily.

@real_irl_nigga @robertlasagna1 I'm just going by what the original poster said. Toddlers are included. As are all others with a limited capacity to make an informed decision. And that affects "China" too. Only way to ensure not wiping out a detrimental chunk of the world is a blue majority.

@RepliesAreFree @robertlasagna1 Cool, so the hypothetical about game theory and voting is extended to retarded irl nonsense and that's your gotcha? Then you're really fucked because people in China, India and Africa will NOT be pressing the "I have a chance of dying" button so good luck with that lmfao

@real_irl_nigga @robertlasagna1 According to AI, there are roughly 128 Million 2 year olds worldwide. I can't verify that, but let's say we have 100 million 2 year olds who don't understand and will choose at random. If it's truly random, about 50 million will choose blue. Only a blue majority saves them.

@RepliesAreFree @robertlasagna1 So you're opting to try save people who are too retarded to understand VERY simple rules? It's quite literally the fix everything switch at this point Your argument is starting to sound a lot like the "Voter ID laws are racist because black people don't know how to get ID" lmao

@real_irl_nigga @robertlasagna1 There's no guarantee that everyone understands the rules. In fact, since everyone has to push a button, you can assume a large portion won't understand the rules, and thus millions will hit blue. At that point as a society, we have to decide whether to abandon them or save them.

@robertlasagna1 They're also hallucinating an ingroup of suicidal saviours Who are they trying to save that's too stupid to pick red? People like them, or people they think are dumber than them? If everyone understands the rules, 100% of people SHOULD pick red, so who are they trying to save?

@justasbefuddled @revenant_MMXX @Layserguy It's not just idiots. It's children, intellectually disabled, elderly. Anyone who we can't rely on to reason logically. Then, it's everyone who knows the only way to protect their loved ones in those groups is a blue majority. And most love at least one "idiot" too.

Best IQ test this site has seen in a while. Most read it as blue being the only way to guarantee everyone's survival, but the simpler solution is for everyone to press red. Although one may press red for selfish reasons, it's also the only true guarantee of survival for anyone.
Tim Urban@waitbutwhy

Everyone in the world has to take a private vote by pressing a red or blue button. If more than 50% of people press the blue button, everyone survives. If less than 50% of people press the blue button, only people who pressed the red button survive. Which button would you press?
