I find the "we had to mask toddlers because people were dying" arguments intriguing. Epidemiologically, it doesn't make sense. It's also a viewpoint restricted to the US.
I wonder whether this stems from the US being a more religious society, where acts of penance are valued.

It is hard to describe how little sense this makes
The idea is that there is a Covid variant we expect will be the predominant variant this winter, but we're not sure so we need emergency funding to develop it though most people are already vaccinated or have natural immunity

The assumption is this is mental health and fentanyl. Cancer ICDs are up which may also be missed screenings but the scale is curious.

But I do think they are ambivalent about how their actions impact others, which is... kind of... terrifying.
I don't know how we get there, but we need a much stronger system to punish public policy that hurts people
