@storcube I think right now it's limited to substacks with a certain amount of paying subscribers. I don't know for sure.

I have access to notes. It's pretty OK so far. The initial killer feature for me is the ability to quickly drag quotes from my articles to tweet-like formats - I'm lazy, and this pleases me.

@realChrisBrunet So I don't know for sure (because I'm not sure how to check) but it's vaguely possible I was banned by her several hours ago for giving her shit. I'm gonna check

The smartest people tell me politics is not about two parties. It's really a uniparty. In other news, one half of the uniparty is trying to jail the other half.

@TheZvi At least I think so - occasionally I run into people who think it's impossible to determine if someone is lying, and that you shouldn't try or act as if they are. And I think it's because they never needed "reasonably reliable algo" solutions to keep themselves safe/uncheated.

@TheZvi Basically anyone who grew up around environments in which lying/bullshitting/scamming was common, and who got taken in by it once or twice in a serious, costly way has a better sense of lying than someone who didn't.

Can anyone come up with, in any field, an example of (1) tacit knowledge one can only get from direct hands-on experience that (2) one cannot even gesture at to one without similar experience?

@gptbrooke @potterlab To be fair, just because I do something doesn't make it stylish. I have to be wearing the right hat to make that happen.

I don't have any training in any of this stuff and I didn't read the post so maybe I'm not even thinking of the right thing?? But!! It is hard to overstate how much benefit I've gotten from being intentional about my language
Guildfather@tasshinfogleman

if you want to get an 80/20 of the benefit of Buddhism—something westerners are obsessed with, and perhaps not wrongly—practicing right speech will get you more more bang for your buck than right mindfulness—yet our culture spent all its points in the last decade on mindfulness

@william_collen You know the part you will hate, though? I couldn't have told you what that was from. I probably got it off a decorative painted wood wall hanging.

@ResidentContra1 I just caught this allusion, and I think it's brilliant. "Death of the Hired Man" is one of my favorite poems. Well done, sir!

Alright guys, can I make it to 300 by the end of the day? If you know someone who could use another substack blog—this one being about aesthetics from a Christian perspective—send them over to ruins.blog
