A delegation from the #Maldives is taking part in the 28th Session of the #IOTC being held in Bangkok. Maldives urges member States to prioritise the sustainability of the tuna stocks in the Indian Ocean during the 5-day negotiations. We call for the adoption of a sound management measure on drifting FADs and on the conservation of sharks. We also encourage members to adopt the proposal on a management procedure for skipjack tuna. Our hope is for the #IOTC to be a leader among #RFMOs in adopting science-based conservation and management measures for the betterment of the coastal communities and the health of tuna stocks.
