If he thinks there’s been a “big bad Royal Navy” at any point during any of the last 3 Presidential administrations, they might want to sack their analysts. Might also explain how they have miscalculated the Iran conflict.
Aaron Rupar@atrupar

Hegseth: "The president was clear this morning in his Truth that there are countries around the world who ought to be prepared to step up on this critical waterway as well. Last time I checked there was supposed to be a big bad Royal Navy that could be prepared to do things like that."

I don’t think it’s an overstretch to describe this as a national security issue. The organised crime infrastructure it flows through creates rivers of dark money. Industrial quantities of stolen consumables create cash flow for drugs, guns, ammo, and explosives.

35,000 pints of stolen Guinness, 950 wheels of pilfered cheese: can the UK’s cargo theft crisis be stopped? It costs the UK economy £700m a year, and criminal gangs are operating with near impunity. theguardian.com/uk-news/2026/m…

The last few years have been quite revealing. Two of the planet’s biggest military set ups did the equivalent of a big fella in a nightclub looking for a small fella to pick a fight with. It isn’t playing out the way they imagined it would. They’re quite the talk of the town.

@FUDdaily I often think something similar to Brexit. Of course public on both sides voted for glib tropes, particularly Leavers. That said, they expected those running either side to knuckle down and put in the hard yards to do the hard work. It’s how the public view the divide.

There's a lesson Restore Britain should learn form Refrom's slow motion decline in the polls. Reform's deflation, I would venture, is because people are waking up to the fact that Reform isn't a serious proposition for government. They are populist blowhards who don't have any real solutions - and even their supporters know it. Reform will have their die hard supporters, but ultimately, you cannot take the wider electorate for fools. As such, while many will support Restore's hard line messaging on immigration, they’re still going to be assessed for seriousness. Folks at Restore need to understand that just because voters agree with your sentiments, it doesn’t mean they will actually vote for you. You have to pass the sniff test, and if there’s nothing beyond the hard line posturing and the lazy slop posted by the leader on X then voters will draw their own conclusions. Slop-posting on X might be superficially popular, but you still need to show you've done the thinking. Credibility still matters.

@ItsTaz1989 I think he has shown what Labour amount to when they cannot borrow and go on the lash, which has been their raison d’etre for many decades. You get this rotting mixture of puritan anarchy. To that extent and that reason, I agree he merits the “worst ever” title.

@francessmith I get the distinct sense that this is what the inside of her mind looks like during a parliamentary debate.

Argue any which way you like, Starmer simply cannot credibly claim that “we’re not going to be dragged in”. We’re already in it up to our necks, in a de-facto war with Iran, as much as we are engaged in a proxy war against Russia over Ukraine. The prime minister cannot have it both ways. turbulenttimes.co.uk/news/front-pag…

“A gallon of jet fuel contains 34 kilowatt-hours of energy in a package weighing six pounds. A lithium-ion battery storing the same energy weighs 250 pounds. That density gap is why every military on earth runs on liquid hydrocarbons, why every container ship crossing the Pacific burns bunker fuel, why every combine harvester in Iowa runs on diesel, and why every 747 landing at Heathrow runs on kerosene. The fact that nobody wages war over solar panels is evidence of their limitations not superiority.” —@Shellenberger open.substack.com/pub/public/p/2…

@MentalHealthCop Have seen this round but often when you drill into them “police fail to solve crimes” isn’t actually true. Often behind that stat is CPS decision is not to move forward or various parties linked to the case withdraw in some way, leaving police nowhere to go.

So the "cops give up" on burglary thing is a red-herring. If there's little / no rapid response to things in progress, no DNA or other tech avenues, no identified offender (there rarely is, for burglary), it's probably not getting solved. Same for the other crime types. 14/14

How did the burglaries, robberies and vehicle crimes on the area where I was an ignorant young sergeant actually get solved? ... I later did violent crime as well. (These categories of crime were the KPIs we were given by government in those days). 1/

I don't think anything in Britain is too broken to fix except for our political class - whose narcissism, ignorance and stupidity will drive everything to breaking point and beyond.
