Even though my defined benefit pension is significantly more valuable if i retire after 60 i'm definitely retiring between 50-55 as time is more valuable at that age. What would you do? Pension at 50: $25k/yr Pension at 55: $55/yr Pension at 60: $90k/yr

@RoaringHammy Yes, hard not to have fun, but certainly not my favorite vacation type. Prefer to get to know an area better and get off the tourist path.

@RoaringHammy Despite the fact minimum wage of over $20 an hour applies to tipping positions it's still 18-20% tip. Means I think twice before eating out often these days. Meanwhile inflation is up another 5% in my city over the past year

@RoaringHammy If they choose a US college, then partially. I would love to see them go to college in Europe.

@RoaringHammy I have mixed emotions on this as someone who played by the corporate first rules my whole life and am about to go on sabbatical. There are dumb risks and calculated risks and sometimes you need to live life instead of prioritizing a corporate job and missing out on life.

My friend's brother quit his job last year to travel for 6 months and haven't able to secure employment since and now his savings is almost depleted 😬 Do you know anybody like this?

@RoaringHammy Yeah. But at that point it's first world problems. If you don't care as bout keeping up with neighbors you can always pull the plug and live in many places. I realized this when eating out in my city became more costly than NYC.

I hear many people say you don't need more than $5 million net worth, but in my city that only gets you a middle class life. Middle class life is good enough for me, how about you?

@RoaringHammy Very close to that. Think often of selling out and having a paid for place (ideally overseas), but kids.

@BoomerDivvies Fair, but in general what do you do about the ever widening wealth gap. This huge gap didn't exist to such an extent decades ago. In the end it comes down to the type of community one wants, each for their own or more community together.

My property taxes are nuts (>$60k) Why should two families using the same roads, schools, and services pay wildly different property taxes just because one house is worth more? Did one house get way better garbage pickup? Same services. Same city. It should be the same bill.
