@saraaa7447 One night my roommate was being really loud in the other room so to drown them out I set my white iBook g4 to compile KDE from source and set it next to my pillow on the bed. That got me right to sleep

The whole way home I was hearing some sort of wind noise and when I went inside it didn’t stop and I’m like “I don’t remember the elevator having a vent fan” IT WAS MY FKN WORK LAPTOP COOKING ITSELF IN MY BACKPACK

@bml_khubbard @gojimmypi I would bet it still works. Some had ram issues (check board pattern upon startup) but that’s a doable fix if your comfortable soldering.

@gojimmypi @RetroTechorDie That's my Apple //c, my 3rd and last 8-bit. Sold it in 1989 to help fund a 386sx PC, but kept all of my 5 1/4" floppies. Bought another early 2000s off eBay to play Choplifter and County Carnival with my young children. Been in a bag ever since. I want to believe it still works.

I WAS going to start a video on this tonight, but having too much fun reliving my childhood with my son.

@gojimmypi @RetroTechorDie I sadly parted mine out like an idiot. I wish kits like this were still readily available to kids at their local strip malls like they were for me in the 1970s and 1980s. The original Arduino UNO had a similar low entry threshold. Things tend to get too complicated fast though.

@TomPorterDC I keep emergency stays in my desk next to a razor and an extra tie clip.

In New London, right down the road from Electric Boat is a WWII submarine memorial that is often overlooked. It is a very well laid out memorial, with the names of all 3500+ submariners that were lost during the war, along with a granite marker for each boat lost. Topping it off is the sail from USS Flasher, SS-249, which holds the distinction of being the second most successful US submarine in WWII by tonnage, only Tang is above her. There’s not much parking and it’s in an industrial and busy area but is worth the visit.
