@HavryshkoMarta I live in an European country, don't know how things are in the US, but tbh the Ukrainians I personally know are all in favor of negotiations. The "no-capitulation" people here are either non-Ukrainians playing heroes with someone else's lives or few Ukrainians who work as PR.

A sweet elderly couple from Ukraine in my U.S. neighborhood: "So, what do you think about those ‘peace talks’? That’s capitulation! Ukraine must not surrender!" The very same couple, five minutes later: "By the way, do you know how our son could get a foreign passport without updating his data with the military office?" 🤡 And that, ladies and gentlemen, is what I call performative patriotism — the kind that bravely defends the nation right up until the front door of one’s own house. It’s always easier to say “never surrender” when it’s someone else’s son you’re planning to keep un-surrendered. Photo is illustrative. Credit: Armando L. Sanchez/Chicago Tribune

@leftypol_org This chart is pretty interesting, it shows what Italian public opinion looks like and how voters from different parties lean. According to the poll, Italians in general are pretty pro-Palestinian and pro-Ukrainian. x.com/ultimora_pol/s…

@storyevtime Very true. Lot of Israelis, when they're abroad, are strongly defensive of their country. You see a similar pattern with many Azeris and Armenians, if u talk about their disputes..neutrality isn't acceptable to them, they want you on their side, otherwise they don't take it well.

"News about a possible end to the war have a very negative impact on the Armed Forces of Ukraine" — Ukrainian battalion commander ▫️When it comes to a ceasefire, soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine think: why carry out tasks, they can hide somewhere and wait for politicians to agree and declare a ceasefire, the commander says.

@rochowanski Well, actually it's not even the way Merz describes it. The point is: if I'm the one financing your war, I decide how and when to stop. You can keep going, but without me. So yes, you have agency but only up to a certain point if you depend on me. That's how it works.

@HavryshkoMarta This is westplaining in its purest form. Sincere compliments to your son for his patience, it must not have been easy to stay calm in front of that kind of lecture.

Yesterday, my teenage son was explaining MindchGate and Zelensky’s role in it to his 🇺🇸history teacher — along with forced mobilization and a half-million–strong army of deserters. All because the teacher tried to convince him that “corruption exists everywhere, and in Russia it is the worst,” that “the war is existential, so of course there’s a draft,” and other “Ukrainian” fairy tales straight from legacy media.

@rochowanski They're probably just waiting for Ukraine to actually capitulate after another few tens of thousands of deaths.

The problem with calling this or any previous peace proposals "capitulation" is that this is far from an actual capitulation, in which Ukraine would lose control over its entire territory, sovereignty, government. What's left to say when things get worse, as they may well do?

@leonidragozin This is why I'm always surprised when people ask why the political left is so lukewarm about Ukraine. I empathize with Ukrainians, I'm against the Russian invasion, but why on earth should I support this clown and the bs he says?

@pati_marins64 Good point, but when you talk about European citizens, you're mixing up ordinary people with politicians or the crazy folks here on X. That's not reality. Most people have lost interest in the conflict, want it to end and are definitely not in some "trance" supporting Zelensky.

It's not about support, but about sobriety What I feel when I see Ukrainian announcements like manufacturing 40 SPGs per month, hundreds of Flamingos, or purchasing 250 fighter jets is that it's an escape from reality. A way to, with small gestures, shape a parallel universe in people's minds, one they desperately wish could be true to keep the support. It's an attempt to create a positive agenda in the face of front-line issues and corruption cases. It's extending a fantasy instead of genuinely seeking coherent solutions, such as purchasing equipment for immediate deployment. European citizens supporting Ukraine's fight and some Ukrainians themselves are in a kind of trance, and every so often, someone swings a pendulum, renewing their optimism. Meanwhile, many on the continent profit from the war. Accepting reality is extremely sad, and it's not easy for everyone, but it must be done, especially by the political class. There are too many numbers in this war that lack any coherence, and many facts will come to light after the peace process.

@tothcsabatibor Genuine question: I know Orban is losing support mainly for domestic political reasons, but how does the opposition position itself to counter campaigns like this? Do they just say "Okay, well, we are the pro-war side" ? I doubt It.

@leonidragozin Pretty creepy guy and the unfortunate reality is that both sides have people like him as you rightly pointed out with Butusov. War strips away restraint and gives people like this room to act on them.

Hard to think of a sicker war propaganda personality involved in Ukraine-Russia conflict than Graham Phillips, with the notable exception of Yury Butusov. Phillips is being investigated by Met police for war crimes. There should be a special international tribunal for all of them. telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/11/1…
