Its insanity that some people think the league is rigging things for the Leafs... They havent won a championship since 1967 and have 2 playoff series wins since 2004. If the league is rigging things for the Leafs, they're doing a horrible job.

Repeating: Doesn't matter who won. The NHL draft lottery isn't rigged. It just isn't. But key Memo to NHL/ESPN: That commercial before the last ball was a bad, bad idea. People jumping on it. Anything that contributes to any shred of appearance of impropriety is a bad thing.

@BoltsBreakdown You still have the basic core, minus Stamkos. Major problem is the once strong pipeline is not what it once was. The wealth of talent is not there to be brought up and fill in effectively or be used as trade bait to get the pieces that will. Handful of players at best.

@KevinMcCurdy Of course. Tampa gave many of their core players from the back-to-back years nice contracts with movement clauses. The team cannot flat out trade the player but must instead ask them to "waive" the clause. Given Tampa's favorable tax status, that will be difficult.

Are you suggesting that Victor Hedman, one of the best defensemen of all time is not worth a little grace from his team to allow him time to mentally heal if he feels he needs it? This isn't a traditional employment arrangement, it's a binding contract that can only be voided by retiring or being bought out. If he has the support of his team and the NHLPA, what is the point of making this argument? We need to be taking athletes (and everyone else's for that matter) mental health way more seriously. These conditions are borderline criminally undermanaged on a global scale, and I would call it an epidemic in North America in particular. Good on him for speaking up, and I support anyone experiencing life altering mental health challenges getting the support they need.

@BoltsBreakdown I do not expect a Cup every year, that is illogical. I, and every other REAL fan, should expect them to realize the current roster is not getting it done after four straight one and dones. Failure to do so means you are living on past success.
