@TheIFS @HelenMiller_IFS @levell_peter You might like to compare that period to how young people were affected by high and rising London prices in the 1980s (and the subsequent crash leaving many in negative equity?

@lukejcr Labour protects wild animals from being killed, but leaves babies at risk of being killed up to birth?

Boxing Day hunts using “trail scents” can sadly be used as a smokescreen for fox hunting. Such CRUELTY has no place in the British countryside. It’s telling how many right-wing NPC politicians rush to defend it. Labour will BAN trail hunting for good to PROTECT wildlife. 🇬🇧🐾

Today, SpaceX shared a new picture (on left) of its next-generation Raptor 3 rocket engine, the most advanced rocket engine ever made. • Almost 2x the thrust of Raptor 1 • Costs 4x less • Much lighter. Will save 2,425 lbs of weight per engine, or 94,575 lbs (42.9 metric tons) per launch • No heat shield • Optimized for manufacturability It will first fly aboard Starship Version 3, with the first launch currently targeted for Q1 2026. @lefineder @elonmusk There has been the same orders-of-magnitude increases in police reported rape and murder. Very low levels in the first half of the 20th century, followed by huge escalation between the 1940s and 1980s. I think it's called 'societal change' aka liberal 'progress'?

Rates of robbery in Western European countries over the past 250 years. "The figure illustrates that robbery was largely unknown in European cities throughout the second half of the nineteenth century and the first half of the twentieth century. But since the early 1960s, the number of police recorded robberies has exploded. Maybe this can in part be attributed to more reporting and better recording, but a large proportion certainly reflects a real change that is unparalleled in the history of modern European society."

AI is apparently improving at an exponential rate. I've heard some people say things like "20% of my job can now be done better by AI", in that case, surely 20% of people who do that job's employment is at risk! I'm sure AI will also create some new roles, yet overall isn't there a strong unemployment risk especially in the services sector? And with AI seeming to improve exponentially, this could accelerate. I would hope politicians are looking and planning at the economic and social impacts in case that materialises (I'm not saying it will happen, just positing that there is a risk) but I heard very little from any party in today's spending review (just talk about investing to improve public sector efficiency). PS I say this without specialist knowledge, just muttering some thoughts out loud

@MartinSLewis Marriage (or Civil Oartneship( is the legal commitment we make to show we intend to be family - sharing life together and support each other till death us do part (usually). The legal entwinememt is a great stabiliser for the couple, and also for society. It should be rewarded.

Today's Poll: Do you support marriage being rewarded in the tax system? Eg. the marriage tax allowance is only for married (or in civil partnerships) low/mid income couples. It isn't available to long term unmarried couples who co-habit. Should marriage get special treatment? Similar tax boons for marriage incl inheritence tax allowances & more
