@Timodc As a cradle Catholic, you have to wonder about anyone that converts to Catholicism for reasons other than marriage.

Vance picked the most protestant looking church possible for the cover of his second memoir, this one supposedly about his conversion to Catholicism. A conversion that somehow happened simultaneously to his decision to become the top apologist for the least-Catholic person on planet earth. @TexasPreacher That was me. And then I realized I never really understood Catholicism, and I was reading Reformed theology into the Bible selectively. God called me Home to the Catholic Church, and reading the Bible was a huge part of that.

In any given Protestant church, you'll find scores of people, astronomically so in fact, who were once papists. Their conversion was rarely complicated or dramatic. They just started reading their Bible.

Over the past several weeks, Carrie Prejean Boller has complained that she was removed from the Presidential Commission on Religious Liberty because of her Catholic beliefs, and she has called out myself and other Catholic members of the commission for not defending her. This is absurd. Mrs. Prejean Boller was not dismissed for her religious convictions but rather for her behavior at a gathering of the Commission last month: browbeating witnesses, aggressively asserting her point of view, hijacking the meeting for her own political purposes. The Catholic position on matters of “Zionism,” to which I fully subscribe, is as follows: all forms of antisemitism are to be unequivocally condemned; the state of Israel has a right to exist; but the modern nation of Israel does not represent the fulfillment of Biblical prophecies and hence does not stand beyond criticism. If Mrs. Prejean Boller were dismissed for holding these beliefs, it is difficult to understand why I am still a member of the Commission. To paint herself as a victim of anti-Catholic prejudice or to claim that her religious liberty has been denied is simply preposterous.
Carrie Prejean Boller@CarriePrejean1

Your Excellency, you shared with me through text message to me that my position reflects Catholic teaching, especially that the modern state of Israel is not the fulfillment of Biblical prophecy. That is the position I expressed, and yet I was removed from the Religious Liberty Commission. Respectfully, it is difficult not to conclude that this commission does not truly care about religious liberty when a Catholic can be removed for faithfully articulating the Church’s teaching. Asking me to deny Catholic teaching in order to satisfy a political ideology is itself a violation of my religious freedom. As Pope Leo XIII warned, “To recoil before an enemy, or to keep silence when from all sides such clamor is raised against truth, is the part of a coward.” Whether I serve on this Commission or not, my voice will only grow louder for those being persecuted for their faith. I believe this appointment was ordained by God, and I will not abandon my Catholic faith to keep a position on a commission that has abandoned its mission. If my religious freedom is not protected, then no one’s is. Please speak up. Please stand up for Catholics. Be brave, Bishop Barron. The world needs brave men.

My family and I went to our parish's early Mass this morning for Ash Wednesday, assuming that the evening Mass (after work) would be full. But it was hard to find a seat at 7:55 AM this morning! What's happening? I've never seen so many people coming to church.

@MonthlyTiger @nickycantaloupe That was my response too. I don’t think this photograph is the right time to criticize what is clearly not ideal. But leave these girls out of it. They’re being obedient and doing what the Church allows at this moment in history.

@nickycantaloupe There’s nothing wrong with stating this isn’t ideal but some people really need to watch their mouths. How would these girls, who care enough to be involved at church, feel if they saw “fellow Catholics” insulting them for serving? How would that impact their faith?

@EMichaelJones1 @GenX_Catholic See, this is where you lose NO people like me. It’s impossible for a valid Mass to be a gateway to schism. Words mean things. And the words you are using imply invalidity at best, and intentional evil at worst.

@GenX_Catholic I never said the Tridentine mass was inherently a problem. I said it was a gateway to schism, which it is. The problem lies not with the Mass but with those who weaponize it as an excuse to reject legitimate church authority.

This statement from the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith is a recipe for failure. Tucho's earlier statement on Medjugorje was a scandalous dereliction of his duty as the Church's guardian of doctrine. But beyond that his current statement misunderstands the issue with the SSPX, which is schism, which is based on lack of charity, not heresy. Talking with the SSPX is a waste of time. I discovered this when I tried to persuade Bishop Williamson to sign the letter he had received from Rome which would have ended the schism, if he had accepted Vatican II in light of tradition, which, he admitted, Archbishop Lefebvre would have done. Tucho needs to clarify the situation by stating clearly that the problem is schism and that schism is based on lack of charity, and that no discussion of doctrine will ever replace the charity that is needed for salvation. The pope needs to state clearly that the SSPX is outside of the Church, that there is no salvation outside of the Church, and if anyone remains in the SSPX he is placing the eternal salvation of his soul at risk. He also needs to state clearly that the Tridentine Mass is the gateway to the SSPX and an exit ramp from the Church. link to statement in thread

Thomas Massie's first wife, Rhonda, dreamed of owning a farm in Lewis County, Kentucky, near her childhood home. The Massies actually purchased land from her parents and built her dream home in 2009. Thomas met his current wife, Carolyn Moffa, around 2015 when she was working for Rand Paul. He then started bringing Carolyn to the farm, even while Rhonda was still alive. Now Carolyn gets to live in the house Rhonda built on the farmland that was in Rhonda's family for generations. I wonder what Massie's children think about this whirlwind wedding.

@hoganCrane @NixonandIke @jarldietrich The article you linked to makes it clear that the Church did not approve of such a thing. In fact, just 5 days ago he Archdiocese of Corrientes has opened an ex officio canonical investigation and announced it will evaluate disciplinary sanctions against the parish priest.

Yep. Any parent/person whose actions played a significant role in the breakdown of a marriage, and with it a family, should do severe penance for the rest of their lives. The consequences of their actions are borne for the rest of life, particularly by their kids.
Katy Faust@Katy_Faust

Divorce is deceptive. Legally, it's one event. But for the child, it often initiates a cycle of instability, loss, and complexity that never ends.

Pope Leo XIV met at the Vatican with members of Courage International @RCCourage, a Catholic apostolate supporting people with same-sex attraction who seek to live chastely according to the teachings of the Catholic Church. During the private audience, they spoke about the healing power of chastity, true freedom as mastery of one’s passions, and surrender to God’s will. Fr. Brian Gannon, Executive Director, said the Pope was very supportive and emphasized that no one is alone and Christ walks with the wounded. The meeting was described as a historic first papal audience for the ministry, active worldwide since 1980.
