I was in London today with a large group of Jewish ppl sitting by the River Thames. A group of young men seemed curious and asked who we were. It made me nervous but I told them honestly. Turns out they were Persian Jews from Los Angeles on a trip abroad. They saw Jewish ppl with their Star of David necklaces out and proud and asked about the safety of doing this in the UK. I replied there’s safety in numbers. Out of the corner of my eye one lad reached under his shirt and pulled out his necklace. It was a truly beautiful moment. We took photos and said “Am Yisrael Chai” loudly and for a small time the world felt right.

@VerminusM Seems like a good thing to call an Israeli ally, but what else could you call us ?

Zionism was a movement to create a national home for the Jewish people in the Land of Israel. That mission was accomplished almost 80 years ago. So what is Zionism now? Is it interchangeable with Jewish nationalism or Israeli patriotism? Is the term still relevant today?

I’ll go one further: You could go back to analog life and nothing much would change. Your interactions with your friends and society would (not always in negative ways). You’d be inconvenienced in various ways. But your house, car, and other material accoutrements would be about the same, as would your life expectancy, your work week, your commute, your education, your family life, and so on. Several of those might be better. The digital world just isn’t that much of an improvement - it changed us, but not necessarily in ways that affect us positively. Whereas - and this can’t be stressed enough - irrespective of any other claims about what is coming, 10-15 years of ChatGPT University will be enough to wreck our society and economy in ways you will notice.

I’m just going to say the refusal to air a Presidential speech about election fraud seems like a horrible way to convince people that you weren’t in on election fraud.

I’ve decided to establish JOHA: Jewish Oral History Archive. I’ve begun taking the oral testimony of Jewish people who have stories to tell. My inspiration is the amazing work of the Shoah Foundation but I’m taking testimony of the family history and the day to day experiences of discrimination before and since October 7th. Why? Because as I can see there is no organised, systematic recording of your experiences as humans and their impact contemporaneously. In the future they may ask for recollections but memory and emotion fade over time. What has been done to you is an abhorrent dereliction of humanity and ethical standards in favour of vibes and riding a wave of hatred. So I’m here listening and recording and transcribing because you matter. DM me if you are interested in setting up a zoom to record your testimony. All it requires is a consent form and you can read and okay your transcribed testimony for inclusion in an archive and potential use for research or a book of Jewish experiences.
