The govt should create a product that remains as the 'Cover' like 401(k). If I move from Hdfc bank fd to shares of Hul, If I move from DSP Multi-Asset fund to Nippon Pharma fund I should not have to pay any Capital Gains Tax. Across fund houses, asset classes, time zones there should be no tax TILL I withdraw out of the 'Cover' The 12.5% cap gains should be levied ONLY when i withdraw from the 'Cover'

@indianviking1 @deepakvenkatesh ..I started applying via Naukri, got 3-4 interview calls and got an offer from 1 of them. I deliberately didnt ask for a high salary as I didnt want to upskill or get stressed. My India salary is like 1/4th of my last Singapore salary. But who cares, money is not the motivation.

@bhatnaturally Bangalore is good if you need to work for an MNC and they ask you to come to office, but for everything else Udupi is better, the positives outweigh the negatives.

Small town life has its downsides. In my BLR gated apartment I could get out of my flat at 4am also and complete an hour's walk within the well-lit premises walking path. In Udupi, poorly lit roads & park, stray dog menace make me apprehensive of stepping out too early. I do see some gentlemen walk in pitch dark with a stick in hand before sunrise

@Goku33638545 @Arun_vish I didn't say don't buy, I just said don't buy on loan. I bought a 15 year old SX4 ZXI 1.6ltr NA engine for 1.5Lakhs, it is such a gem of a car. You can buy a similar age Toyota Corolla 1.8Ltr engine for 2.5Lakhs and it runs better than any cars they make currently

car is a depreciating asset. this is a true statement accounting wise. but why do you care so much about it? you’re not a walking talking balance sheet, but a life full of atoms bursting to experience things. if you wanted everything as appreciating assets, do you know life is a depreciating asset? your energy keeps dropping as your grow old, and eventually you vanish. so until you’re around, make sure you experience life and not just a balance sheet numbers.

I am using the market dip to do some tax loss harvesting. I have losses in some mutual funds that I bought late last year, I am realising those losses netting off against gains I realized during rebalancing sometime ago.

As a person who takes nearly 100 flights a year - I have one strong recommendation for you. Don’t fly @airindia. Avoid it like the plague. This is an airline which has no consideration for its customers, including its loyal, frequent traveling and high paying customers. It is a disgrace to the airline industry, and to India itself. They will cheat and scam you at every possible opportunity to the last rupee. They will shock you with their level of pettiness and stupidity. Save your money. Save your time. Don’t give them business out of goodwill or emotions. They don’t deserve it. This company should be forced to drop “India” from its name. It is a blot on @TataCompanies. The only benefit of privatizing this rotten company was it saved the government exchequer thousands of crores of rupees. It is a strategic failure and a national embarrassment (given that it carries “India” in its name).

@deepan_civileng Sibling rivalry is the worst thing that can happen. Also let me tell you, you cant treat both kids equally, 1 of them will be your favourite, just like if you have 2 cars or 2 bikes. You won't treat them the same. So it will always be unfair for 1 kid, no matter how much you try

@deepan_civileng It is not about money alone. It is also about spending time with them and their individual interests and needs. I have 1 daughter, it is very easy to take care of her interests. Imagine 2 kids both very different how do you give time? Also it is huge responsibility and risk.

Can I afford 2 kids? Ironically the toughest question for middle-class men. Yet, even if you can't give them everything, you give them one of life's best gifts: sibling love & rivalry.
