Let’s face it, the only way to promote physician interest is if there were real consequences behind our actions. Nurses et al are empowered because they are willing at any time to stop performing patient care over their own contract needs. Will physicians? Until that happens, MDs will always be bent over by other interests.

This is a really good question. Lots of well-meaning physicians, but we are way too fragmented. Hospitals, insurance companies, pharmaceutical, and device companies all know this. The government definitely knows this. All of these entities use it to their advantage. It’s a big problem.

Good point. Even the independent community seems very fragmented. My money goes to SIR, ACR, OEIS and associated PACs. Where is all the money going? Need to rally behind one organization and have a unified voice for physicians. AMA should be that voice but clearly isn’t.

@MrBooth07 The Canucks missed their opportunity to surround this core with quality veterans (Toffoli, Tanev) during the COVID offseason and let this core burn to the ground. That is on ownership.

I think the OBL rates are probably closer to what these costs should be. Hospital expenses are just out of control. OBLs are run lean, which is what the system (in the minds of payers) should aim to be. A question for you: could you run your OBL on cash only work? Set your rates for procedures and not deal with insurance or any set fee schedules?

@RexPillai How does raising OBL rates increase cost to the system? You do know that OBL payment also has to be used to pay nurses, techs, front desk staff, medical assistants, billing, EMR licenses, insurance, marketing and of course devices, right?

Site of service grift. Multiple examples in #irad. The one on my mind lately has been IVC filters. Very eye opening. Outpatient IVC filter placement in the hospital pays almost 3x what it does in the physician office. Same service, different site. The power of lobbying. We need to speak up.

@GradySas Dismantling last years team (which wasn’t good enough) and replacing it with journeymen was a choice. Especially knowing Demko was out.

I would say this is the most disappointing season in a long time given the expectations and success of last year. At least with the Benning era you knew the team was gonna crappy after a couple of years into his tenure. They were supposed to be a contender this year. #Canucks
