Would love to have been inside Irad Ortiz Jr.'s head watching brother Jose's 1st Kentucky Derby win. Irad, a 5-time Eclipse Award winner with two Belmont wins but no Kentucky Derby, was so close he could taste it. Jose is a one-time Eclipse winner w/ a Derby, Preakness & Belmont.

Mahan: I firmly reject the candidates of the MAGA movement at one end, who are offering solutions that are not aligned with California’s values. But I also reject the “more of the same” candidates who are offering the same old solutions—and frankly a lot of rhetoric and a lot of empty promises, promises they can’t keep.
I’m the only candidate in this race who has had the responsibility of being a chief executive of a major U.S. city and holding myself and everyone around me accountable for delivering results, for making people’s lives better—including challenging some very powerful organized interests within my own party and fighting to make it easier to build housing, to open a small business, to reduce crime, and to make all of our neighborhoods safer through community policing, reducing homelessness faster and more pragmatically than any other city in the state.
Those are the kinds of solutions that we need right now. We need pragmatic progressivism that delivers real, measurable impact in people’s lives—making schools better, neighborhoods safer, and housing more affordable. That’s what I’ll be laser-focused on as governor.
