Cabinet Office minister Lou Haigh says Tory and Reform mayors will not be able to use new freedoms to hand tax rebates to local people and businesses. Devolution only goes so far…

Last month, Diane Abbott stood up at a conference in London and described Ukraine’s defence against Russian invasion as, and I quote, “the NATO campaign against Russia” (watch from the 1 minute mark). Labour are genuinely mad to let her back in.

Europe has been invaded.

NEW: Louise Haigh tells @TimesRadio Breakfast that Mayors will not be able to issue tax rebates: “Mayors don't have the ability and won't have the ability under these plans to set income tax rates at a regional level. Those schemes necessitate HMRC to set up full schemes.”

I promised to take power out of Westminster. I meant it. For the first time ever, we’re giving Mayors a share of income tax so communities have more control over jobs, transport, housing and public services in their area. I know what it’s like to be ignored by politicians in Westminster. I won’t make that same mistake as Prime Minister.

NEW: Sir Jonathon Porritt, arrested under Terrorism law outside Westminster Magistrates Court. As police escorted him away he said "I am a supporter of Palestine Action, trying to save lives is not terrorism, exposing this Governments complicity in genocide is not terrorism."
