@Noahpinion If she gets serious, she'll steamroll Newsom as quickly as Obama steamrolled Clinton. Her biggest obstacle is deciding not to become a lifetime senator.

@CohenSite @moseskagan And this times amazingly well with a convo I was having about potentially exiting our strip malls over the next 10-15 years. Not sure if it will be rent caps or CAM caps or both, but they’re coming. LA or SF will pioneer them. They’ll work temporarily and then onto the state.

Commercial rent control is a really terrible idea, as seen by the commercial environment of places that heavily-regulate commercial leases, such as Paris, Brussels, Rome, and Barcelona oh, wait...

@sportslarryk The 49ers are 18-17 in the regular season the last two years. 1-1 in the playoffs with a massive 41-6 loss. The 22-23 bad drafting has caught up with them. If 24-25 don’t pan out it’s going to get dicey quick.

A faulty premise ALWAYS produces a faulty conclusion, BUT if you’re going to wander far away from the consensus personnel opinion, you’d better be right. The 49ers have been successful, but their day 1-2 drafting has not been. They win in spite of their drafting failures. The issue is not the apparent “reaches” in this draft class. The issue is that the #49ers from 2020-2023 took 12 players on days 1-2 of the #NFLDraft and only have Ji’Ayir Brown to show for it on their current roster. That’s an 8% hit rate. Completely Unacceptable by any standard. Shanahan should have 3 rings by now and instead he has none. Does Jed York have what it takes to finesse this situation and get everybody placed in their proper roles and add a top tier young but proven talent evaluator to the mix? If he can do it, I guarantee multiple SBs coming his way. If he can’t, this whole thing implodes at some point.
Peter Schrager@PSchrags

One big talking point from this Draft is the teams that took their guys and trusted "their" boards vs "consensus". Bears, Rams, Jags, and most notably -- 49ers -- had the largest Deltas between their picks and where the Consensus Big Boards listed. All playoff teams in '25. 🤷🏼‍♂️

@grantcohn Composite list of how several graded at the time. Prisco gave a C-, Kiper a B-. Not many thought very highly of the picks though Winters was pretty well regarded as a strong value pick. 49erswebzone.com/articles/16873…

For all the analysts who say you can't grade a draft class for three years, let's see your grades for the 49ers' 2023 draft class. It has been three years.

@grantcohn It's correct to ask about draft process "Reaching" wasn't a difficult question and should have been asked. It was a topic that was trending across the internet already making it a timely question. He answered the question professionally, exactly how he should have.

@Coach_Yac The last two seasons the 49ers are 18-17 and the players they count on the most outside of Purdy are becoming older players. This season will speak volumes on whether their thought process works or whether they're the 10 win team or the 6 win team of 2 seasons ago.

Colin Cowherd on the 49ers draft strategy: “I don’t get how John Lynch drafts. I know John. I covered John. I don’t get their drafts. Warren Sharp wrote an article— no team in the league has reached on more players over the last 4-5 years and a lot of them just don’t play in the league. They drafted a kicker in the third round. Just a bad pick. I didn’t like this draft. Shocker, they drafted another WR.” Colin also mentioned Grant Cohn calling out Lynch in the clip 🎥: @TheHerd

"In 2011, the first draft after the CBA, you had Cam Newton making $22 million." "Now, 16 years later, we've gone from $22 to $56 million, a $35 million increase over 16 years." @AndrewBrandt discusses the increase in the salary of the #1 pick over the years, on the latest Business of Sports:

@JoshDubowAP The genuine issue and why he is not IMO a trustworthy journalist is not that he feels against the consensus, big board. The reason is because if the 49ers did draft off the consensus board and got panned, he would be arguing for its importance. There is no intellectual honesty.

@ZavalaA Much better answer than Steyer. Creating context for the multitude of issues a governor faces rather than a simple grade is the right way to answer. Going to also assume Becerra was prepared to answer based off the Steyer question, but that's such an easy one to prep for.

Xavier Becerra at first told me he would grade Gavin Newsom for his two terms as California Governor. Then, about a minute later, he decided he could not. "I don't know if I can give him a grade."

@DraftVogel Bad drafting is a lagging indicator. Over the last two seasons the 49ers have been 18-17. Their best players are 3 years older since their Superbowl run and are productive but aging. Very real possibility bad drafting catches up with them this season despite FA band-aids.

@AlSacco49 49ers mid round successes virtually ended in 2021. The successes are the likes of Brown and Winters, not Kittle or Greenlaw. Guys starting because there is no one better.

An example of why “people who are capable of thinking for themselves” might be frustrated: 49ers take RB Black in rd 3, far earlier than needed. If it’s a one-off, or team had success w/ that in the past, then whatever. But there’s a history. Sermon, TDP, Williams, Guerendo.
David Lombardi@LombardiHimself

This tweet aged so well, even I could not have anticipated how well it would age. The whole weekend was a win for those who don’t take mock drafts too seriously — and are actually capable of thinking for themselves

@JL_Chapman No idea how the "consensus" works but tend to agree Shanahan plays a role here. The only issue is without seeing the players on the consensus big board there's no gauge with which to judge results. Regardless, whatever system is being used, it's broken.

Great read but I had two issues. One it’s Shanahan and not Lynch. Lynch is nothing more than a CEO. Kyle gets first and final say on everything in that building. Two Shanahan is such a great coach it covers up how bad these busts have been.

I evaluated the last 4 years of John Lynch drafts his performance: 2023: #31 2024: #28 2025: #31 2026: #32 after the draft, Lynch claimed he knows better than everyone else the data shows he doesn’t I went thru every single "reach" he made it's gross sharpfootballanalysis.com/analysis/john-…
