@nickbateman33 It may be. Until it isn’t. Human speed and endurance records NEVER last too long. Bob Beamon set a world record that people thought was untouchable and altitude aided. Seemed like a long time, but less that 25 years later somebody beat it.

This is probably the most impressive athletic feat ever Averaging a 4 minute mile for 26 straight miles should not be possible

@runthinkwrite A work colleague's boyfriend was top 25 today. Apparently he was disappointed with his run. I told her that he has a lifetime of bragging about coming top 25 is a race people will be talking about in 50 years.

Club runners of a certain level and vintage used to have a bit of a code about times: you'll tell each other your marathon time (alright, interminably) but only the minutes, because the 2 was understood, and unspoken. (I got into this club by running a '59, then a '54.) My quicker mates would run a AAA qualifying time of sub '45, and a few (thirty somethings) would run a 30-something. It's similar to giving your half marathon time in minutes - (getting under 80 was a target I never hit.) But, if you were quick, you'd never say 'one hour 20.' Of course it took one hour and a bit - was it a 70 something or an 80? Of course you do a half in one something, and a marathon in two something. What are you, nuts? This was a big affectation, but it was also a bit of fun. but it's all blown away today, because two guys ran a marathon in ONE SOMETHING😮🤯 I hope people realise how absolutely mind blowing this is.

@DebtSlaveUSA @0xleegenz Let's have New Year's Day (or Eve) changed. It's not a Monday or Sunday - it's its own thing, Every fourth year make it two days.

Okay but there are 365.25 days in a year Divided by 13 months is 28.09615… days per month So after 13 months you would be 1.25 days behind the earths revolution around the sun Year two you’d be 2.5 days behind Year three: 3.75 days behind Year 4: 5 days behind So in year 4 you would have to chop off 5 days from the year and start your year on a saturday and lose monday thru friday

If we had 13 months instead of 12, every month would be exactly 28 days, the 1st would always Monday and the 28th would always be a Sunday Every month would have exactly 4 weeks instead 4.257 and we would properly align ourself with the cycle of moon

@anon_opin Absolutely. Tall men have been discriminated against for too long. It's time for the privileged short arses to take a step back. I'm fed up of these women 5' 2" who refuse to date a man over 5' 8".

What Brits ate for dinner in 1960: - Swan stuffed with pigeon on a bed of larks - Two flagons of wine - Half a head of greens, freshly harvested from their allotments - A massive apple crumble with pink custard - A huge plate of cheeses and figs - Afterwards, five or six strong teas What Brits eat for dinner now: - Pop tarts - A can of beans poured over rancid curry This all changed in just one generation, Why? The answer is complex but Margaret Thatcher's dinner "reforms" were a large part of it. Capitalism destroys everything.

@SShepherd25603 @JoeBangles11 @jimmycarr The manager of our team at work said this recently and he got a lot of criticism at the time, from women and men. He then pointed out that the children of two other couples were stopping by for a few hours while their parents were out.

@lucasaganronald The thing is that the shortlist is determined by 1000 members of the sports media, but then voted on by 68 retired sports stars, who will mostly vote for the highest profile contenders. There are three cyclists - Indurain, Cancellara & Hoy

People answering to this saying that if Pogi wins the Tour and Worlds this year, he will win it next year, but I don’t think so. Klæbo delivered an all-time performance at the Winter Olympics, and with the FIFA World Cup coming up, the attention of this event compared to cycling is on a completely different level. 2025 was perfect for it. No Olympics, no football World Cup, Pogačar’s insane season with 3 monuments, podiums in all, Tour win, World Champs, and European Champs win. If it didn’t happen this time, I just don’t see it happening in the future, maybe at the earliest in 2027.
Lukáš Ronald Lukács@lucasaganronald

OFFICIAL: Carlos Alcaraz has beaten Tadej Pogačar at the Laureus Sportsman of the Year 2025 award. 🥲 But for me in the end, it’s not even that surprising. If I talk to people outside cycling, especially those who only follow bigger sports like football, most don’t even know who Tadej Pogačar is. A pretty clear example is that I follow about 460 people on Instagram, and only five of them follow him there and even those are just friends who ride gravel, one MotoGP rider, and the Finnish president. For someone so dominant, he just never seems to break out of the cycling bubble. Whether it’s the sport itself or that he is not extremely active on social media, he rarely reaches a wider audience.

@judeinlondon I always cite when I had blotches in my eyesight. I went to my optician at 11am. By 3pm I'd had surgery so save my eyesight in that eye on the NHS (a torn retina). Cost to me: £2 for the bus to the hospital.

@laflammerouge16 In the men's category, football, the most dominant sport in the world, has only won twice (both Messi, once shared). Tennis has won almost half of the time (13 wins). F1 has five wins. Bolt had four wins. Tom Brady & Lebron James never won. The awards have a type I guess.

@bigmonkeong I think the future of the Bond franchise is to let the best directors have a one shot run at it. The producers can set limitations, but wouldn't it be great to see Villeneuve, Nolan, Tarantino, Spielberg, Gerwig, Anderson (both RT and Wes) have run at it with their own Bond.

@AdamPugh @grok if the ceo of tesco was paid £10million a year and decided to sacrifice his salary to directly subsidies the coast of bread for his customers, how much would the cost of bread reduce by?

Just to make it clear: There will never be a time when it’s morally justifiable to pay the CEO of Tesco £10million. Ever. If you can’t grasp that you’re actually just an incredibly shitty person.

@nickimoraa As a white British man in his 50s, the word doesn't really appear on my playlist, which includes 90s hip-hop (but not a lot). I think the only time I heard the word is in Hurricane by Bob Dylan. It's only been introduced by black artists in the last twenty years.

@daniellloyd1 But those riders all had better suited teammates - the likes of Sagan, Kwaitkowski and Valverde. It's a waste of their abilities. It's better thay they do two Grand Tours a year.

Best result in a monument: Alberto Contador: 9th Nairo Quintana: 9th Chris Froome: 36th It's easy to forget that there was a generation or two where classics and Grand Tours were almost two entirely different disciplines. Whether you enjoy watching Tadej Pogačar dominate the one day classics or not, he has set a very good precedent for future pros - winners of Grand Tours can and probably should race monuments (even cobbled ones). That's the thought process that future greats will have as they're growing up, and that's got to be a good thing.
