A good friend recently lost a fellow brother and veteran to suicide - I could feel his anguish and pain, something many veterans have experienced. Pete, I wrote this for you and hope it eases your pain. I also pray those who may read it, those who are struggling, see that we are here to listen and to provide help. Such a severe and permanent solution is never the answer to a temporary problem. ————————————————————- Silent Battles, Lasting Pain - The Weight We Did Not See. Their shadows linger in quiet halls, Echoes of laughter now thin as air. Brothers who fought through dust and fire, Gone by a choice, no love could repair. From Baghdad nights to Afghan sands, Cold winds in Europe, fierce African skies. They bore a weight we couldn’t see, Silent battles fought behind their eyes. They left behind small hands and soft goodnights, A wife waiting at an unopened door. A permanent answer to passing pain, Now we’re left questioning… aching and sore. We sift through memories, searching for signs, Haunted by guilt we can’t outrun. Hollow and broken, we carry their ghosts, Forever wondering if we failed our Nation’s sons.

A Father & Husband’s Guilt. A constant kick to the gut, boots to the ribs, I silently collapse in the dark. I strive to be their shelter and light, Yet I’m lost, I’m falling apart. I see their small hands reaching, Her criticisms and shouts pleading for more. A father and husband, meant to be present, But I’m broken, stuck on the floor. Regret tastes bitter and sharp, Shame heavy as stone on my chest. But even in pieces, I attempt to rise again, I love them, I’m doing my best.

Grateful to be part of the Department of Army Tactics (DTAC) at CGSS - especially this week as we wrap up graduation and close out an intense academic year. Amid all the chaos, this incredible team still took time to celebrate my birthday in classic DTAC fashion: cake, laughs, and even a cardboard cutout of me in a toy jeep surrounded by cavalry manuals as a cake topper😆 🤠🐴 Don’t let the camo, badges, tabs, and steely stares fool you - this team of military and retired military instructors are some of the most thoughtful and supportive teammates I’ve had the honor to work with. Truly a group that practices what it teaches: take care of your people. 🇺🇸🫡🙌 Appreciate the gesture, the laughs, and most of all - the team. Proud to serve alongside each of you. #DTAC #CGSS #Teamwork #CavLife #ArmyStrong #EducateToWin #LoveThisTeam #HappyBirthdaySurprise 🎂🚙📚💪

Honored to represent the U.S. military, @FortLeavenworth, the U.S. Army Combined Arms Center, @USACGSC at the Memorial Day ceremony held at the National WWI Museum and Memorial in downtown Kansas City. 🇺🇸🎖️ It was a powerful experience standing alongside veterans, Gold Star families, and community leaders as we remembered the heroes who gave everything in service to our nation. 🕊️💔 I had the privilege of meeting Maj. Gen. William D. “Razz” Waff, a fellow @VMI1839 graduate and the keynote speaker. 🎤 He spoke with heartfelt clarity about how Memorial Day is not only a solemn time of reflection, but also a moment to honor the places, people, and stories that help us uplift one another - celebrating life through the enduring memories of sacrifice and courage. 🫡🌺 Grateful for the opportunity to stand in their honor and ensure their legacy lives on. 🙏💫 #MemorialDay #HonorTheFallen #GoldStarFamilies #FortLeavenworth #CombinedArmsCenter #VMI #KansasCity #WWIMuseum #ArmyStrong #DutyHonorCountry #ServiceAndSacrifice #RememberAndHonor #LestWeForget #Gratitude #HeroesLiveForever

24 years ago today, the journey began 🇺🇸 I raised my right hand and commissioned into the US Army - full of ambition, pride, and a belief that greatness meant being a war hero, maybe even earning a place in VMI’s Hall of Valor. 🫡 But after 24 years of service, deployments, commands, and lessons learned the hard way, I’ve come to see greatness differently. True greatness is found in the quiet honor of serving our nation. It’s found in the daily pursuit of becoming a better leader - not for rank or recognition, but for the Soldiers who look to you in moments of uncertainty. 🤠🐴 And most importantly, it’s found at home. In being a better husband to Desiree and a better father to Brooke, Gemma, and Hank. They are why I serve. They are the reason I put the uniform on each day - to protect them and help ensure our enemies never reach our shores. 🦅 Here’s to continuing the mission with humility, strength, and love. #ArmyStrong #VMI #24YearsAndCounting #FamilyFirst #ServiceAboveSelf

Took Gemma to CGSC for “Take Your Kid to Work Day” as part of the Platte County School District’s program with Siegrist Elementary 📚🧑‍🎓👩‍🎓 and she absolutely crushed it! 💪 She tooked behind-the-scenes look at what goes on at the Command and General Staff School, 🤠🇺🇸🦅 met some amazing teammates, and even tried to take over as the new DTAC Director (watch out, team)! Grateful to be part of a community and workplace that supports bringing our kids into the fold. 🙌 Seeing the Army through her eyes reminded me why we do what we do. #TakeYourChildToWorkDay #SiegristElementary #PlatteCountyProud #CGSS #ArmyLife #DTAC #ProudDad #LeadershipStartsYoung #MiniDirectorInTraining #TeamGroen

As I process the devastating events that unfolded in New Orleans, I am in utter disbelief. Shamsud-Din Jabbar served under my Troop Command during our deployment to Afghanistan. He worked quietly and professionally in the S1 shop and as a mail clerk, ensuring the little things that kept us all connected to home were done with care and precision. He was a great Soldier, someone who showed discipline and dedication. To think that the same individual who once embodied quiet professionalism could harbor so much hate, leading to such unspeakable atrocities, is incomprehensible and heartbreaking. This transformation is a stark reminder of the dangers of unchecked anger, isolation, and hate. Please watch out for one another. Be there for your brothers and sisters in arms, your friends, and even those who seem distant or troubled. Don’t let hate take root—either in your own heart or in the hearts of those around you. We must care for one another before it’s too late. My prayers go out to the victims and their families. May they find strength in this time of unimaginable grief. Let’s honor their memory by ensuring we stand together against hate in all its forms. #NeverForget #WatchOutForEachOther #AgainstHate #StandAgainstHate #SupportEachOther #VeteransForPeace #NewOrleansStrong #EndViolence #UnitedAgainstHate #NeverForget #PrayersForVictims
