The Delhi Gymkhana Club was the venue for the "farewell comrades" party in the honour of Indian army officers who had decided to go to Pakistan. After an year or so, these "comrades" attacked India. And all that the supporter of Brown Sepoys and their foreign masters have to do today is to vilify INA and Subhas Chandra Bose. They say that a few ex-INA men were in Pakistan army when the Kashmir war happened. Oh, please! @Sanjay_Dixit @ShubhamAzadHind @chandrachurg @ProfKapilKumar

Since nothing exists devoid of consciousness, and consciousness is the Self, what are bondage and liberation? What is Maya? What causes transmigration (saṁsāra)? In the Tantric Shaiva tradition, the playful act of self-concealment by Shiva creates three successive obscurations (mala) within His pure nature of consciousness, transforming Himself into a Nara, a human being. Mala is not a substantial entity but a misperception of reality that creates confusion between the Self and Non-self. The first obscuration is āṇava-mala, which manifests in two ways: First, Shiva separates his own essential nature from Himself—Shakti of Absolute Freedom (svātantrya). This Freedom is not from— but to be. This Shakti of absolute freedom manifests the universe; its distinct nature appears external and alien to Shiva due to the plenitude of objects (universes), which does not share his nature of Light (of consciousness). There is no trouble at this point, as his sense of I-AM does not let diminish his sovereignty; because this self-apprehension (I-AM) is nothing but His own Shakti of Absolute Freedom. But the Next act is more dramatic than this previous one. In his own playfulness, Shiva chooses to lose (forget) his sense of I AM—Shakti of absolute freedom. The moment He does that, He transforms and descends into an individual being in the universe created by his own Shakti. I will simplify these two steps with a simple simile. Imagine a king who loses his kingdom and then forgets that the very kingdom He resides in is his own and He is the ruler, not the subject to be ruled. Similarly, in his play, Shiva manifests the universe by his own Shakti and then becomes unaware of the fact that the universe is nothing but an expansion of his own Shakti. Thereby, while Shakti becomes universal, Śiva becomes individual. All this expansion of Shakti takes place within the pure consciousness of Paramashiva. Thus, everything is created, yet nothing is created which is not Shiva—the self-luminous light of consciousness. This entire hierarchy from Shiva to a common man is a playful self-reflection (I AM) within the consciousness of Paramashiva. Verse 101 of Vijñana Bhairava is self-apprehension of this truth only: “The Supreme Lord, who is all-knowing, the agent of all action, and all-pervading—He alone is my own Self. Through unwavering certainty in this Shaiva truth, one becomes Shiva.” Therefore, like Maya is not the creatrix of the world in Shaiva Tantra, but it is Shakti. The world is not a stimulation but the absolute freedom of Shiva. This is the reason the universe is praised as the glory of Shiva; and that is why renunciation from the world is never an essential prerequisite for the Trika Path. If all our rituals and scriptures, Maya Beeja (ह्रीं—Hriṁ) is never taken in the context of an illusory power (avidyā); rather, as the Mantra for the mother of the universe—Bhawani or Bhuvaneshwari. Why is it called Maya-Beeja—seed syllable of Maya then? Because this is the seed syllable of an intermediary subtle (formless)state of Shakti called Mahamāya, who creates and governs various Bhuvanas—the tangible planes of existence (yes, you can call it a multiverse). Jai Ma Ram!

#WATCH | Delhi: Centre asked Delhi Gymkhana Club to hand over premises by June 5, citing public purpose, defence infrastructure and national security considerations. Riya Sachthey, Advocate and Member of Delhi Gymkhana Club, says, "I have been a third-generation member of the Delhi Gymkhana Club. I was pretty appalled when I saw this notice. But when I read through the notice, the legal language clearly states that in the same deed, re-entry is allowed. But re-entry, a layman will not understand what re entry for what? So when you read the lease deed, you will notice that re-entry is only for public use. If this land is to be taken by the government for public use, in public interest, manning the security of our country, if there was some sort of an issue like that, it's okay, I'm fine...The staff over there should be adjusted somewhere so that they don't lose their livelihood. Me being a member, third-generation member, I feel that there should be some sort of an alternate institution which might not be as historical as this. We all can, you know, go there and make it like that. There should be some sort of alternative that we can also go and visit. I'm sure there's something good for the nation, in the interest of the citizens of the country, that such a step is being taken."

The sheer entitlement and the gall to justify it with the absurdity!!
Kiran Bedi@thekiranbedi

This is unfortunate. It is truly tragic. ( Hope the proposal is reconsidered) @arunjaitley got a new pool constructed during his life time. Some of the finest tennis matches have been played here. So much history, so many memories, and generations of sporting excellence are associated with this place. The Delhi Gymkhana Club is not just a property — it is part of our institutional and sporting heritage. Change may be necessary, but history and legacy deserve thoughtful preservation. We can plan to add something new there too… ndtv.com/india-news/del…

This should have done 70 years ago. Colonial hangover. There are so many places to play tennis and have rum afterwards.

On 15 August 1973, PM Indira Gandhi buried a time capsule in Red Fort to be retrieved after 1000 years. In this time capsule, history of India, life & works of Mahatma Gandhi were emphasised upon. Other contents were not known. Several opposition leaders outraged over this. 1/

Apropos Union Gov’s decision to destroy #DelhiGymkhanaClub my views: 1. I joined it in 1978/79 (applied in 1974). My father wasn’t a member. 2. Only all-India services & military officers got membership routinely. 3. The club, besides its other services, was famous for its tennis & squash facilities. Famous writer/journalist Khushwant Singh played tennis there till his 90s 4. The elected committees may’ve performed poorly, making gov nominate members. 5. As my old friend @thekiranbedi has opined Del Gym Club is a repository of sporting, services & cultural memories. Destroying it is untenable.
