Long overdue doesn’t begin to cut it. Don Cherry is very highly regarded by many Canadians Certainly more-so than the Laurentian elite in Ottawa. Controversial? You bet - and he was unapologetically Canadian. Instead, they honour progressive icons like Justice Rosalie Abella, and Dr. Theresa Tam & environmental activist David Suzuki. Finally, a well-deserved nomination for a Canadian icon. Now somebody nominate @paulbrandt #DonCherry

Today, July 6, 1967 one of the most brutal and forgotten genocidal civil war erupted in history: the Nigeria-Biafra Civil War formally started. A war that changed the trajectory of Nigeria, Nigerians and Africans for the worse. In my view, because of this war and its attendant consequences, Nigeria and Africa’s place in history was misplaced. I have argued that until the injustices of that war is rectified, and the appropriate lessons learned, sadly Nigeria will continue to drift. While it may be fashionable for those who control the country’s political and military infrastructure to continue to enjoy the spoils of power selfishly at the expense of the future of Nigeria and her peoples, I continue to urge and remind Nigeria’s leaders that there is an expiration date for everything in life. Now is the time. It is important therefore to get to the important work of building a true nation so that she might assume her rightful place for the sake of her peoples and the world. Nigeria and her peoples deserve a nation, leaders and government that truly reflects their grit, intellect, hard-work, indomitable spirit, resilience and abiding faith in God.

What a day! But let me tell you how it started! Three teenagers got up at the crack of dawn (shocking but true), stealthily adorned the kitchen with Birthday decorations, and feigned falling back asleep on the sofa - just so they could catch me in the morning before I left for the day! They got me - I was super surprised and super thrilled! I’m one lucky lady to have the most incredible children and family ever!
