Finally visited St. Mary’s Lead today. It was bathed in a gorgeous, early evening light. Hard to imagine that one of the bloodiest battles ever fought on England’s soil, The Battle of Towton was fought a mile or so from this place in 1461

17 February 1461. 2nd Battle of St Albans Despite Yorkist defensive preparations for battle north of St Albans, Margaret of Anjou's Lancastrians surprise Warwick's men by entering and capturing the town from the west and attacking them from the rear. The Yorkists flee.

Visited the former site of my old school, King Edward VI School in Southampton yesterday. One of its alumni was Isaac Brock who died in 1812 defeating a US invasion of Canada. Fortunately we're all friends now - and hopefully we'll be even better friends again in 4 years time.

Visited Winchester Cathedral yesterday. Here's the memorial to Sir George Prevost who defended Canada against US aggression during the War of 1812.
