It's not wrong, the economics of the game has always been somewhat bonkers, but it's bonkers on steroids nowadays unless urgent action is taken to incentivise more sustainable operating behaviour by Clubs @FairGameUK has proposed some excellent solutions that the game would be wise to implement

FULL-TIME: The Under-18s have inflicted the first defeat of the day on Northampton. The Youth Alliance South East league leaders won 4-1 away this afternoon with a brace from @HarryHedges34 and one apiece from Joe Kirby and Amaari Sealey - all in fine goalscoring form. #AFCW 👏🏻

Grassroots
Grassroots@Teamgrassroots_·
Disappointed to receive this message over the weekend. Sometimes I honestly feel like quitting managing my child’s football team… and that breaks my heart, because I truly love grassroots football. Grassroots Football should be about kids having fun, not adults creating drama on the sidelines. I’m a volunteer manager. Like so many others, I give up my Sundays, evenings, and family time. I put so much effort into these kids. I don’t get paid. I do it because I care. I do it because I love seeing the smiles, the confidence grow, the friendships form, and the kids learning teamwork and discipline. But lately, it’s been really hard. Every single week, it’s something. It feels never-ending. No matter what you do, it’s never right. One parent is always right. The club is always wrong. The manager is always wrong. There’s nothing positive to say — only complaints, rumours, stirring problems, pulling other parents into it, going around asking why families would leave the club, and spreading negativity everywhere. It wears you down. I’ve tried to be fair. I’ve tried to listen. I’ve tried to support every child. I’ve tried to create a positive environment. But when someone constantly looks for problems instead of solutions, it becomes exhausting. It’s made me feel sad, stressed, and honestly depressed at times. And the hardest part? We’re supposed to be doing this for the kids. Grassroots football should be about: ⚽ kids having fun ⚽ learning to win and lose ⚽ building confidence ⚽ making friends ⚽ staying active ⚽ feeling part of something Not adults creating drama on the sidelines. I know so many managers and coaches feel like this but don’t speak up. They quietly burn out and walk away. And that’s heartbreaking — because grassroots football survives on volunteers. Without us, there are no teams. So if you’re a manager or coach reading this and feeling overwhelmed, unappreciated, or close to giving up — you are not alone. Please remember: 💚 You are making a difference, even when it doesn’t feel like it 💚 Most parents appreciate you, even if a loud few don’t 💚 Most kids love being there because of you 💚 You’re teaching lessons far bigger than football To parents: please be kind. Please remember we are human. We’re doing our best. If there’s an issue, talk calmly and respectfully. Don’t gossip. Don’t stir. Don’t forget these are children. And to anyone struggling right now — reach out. Talk to someone. Message another coach. Lean on your club. Don’t carry it all alone. I still love grassroots football. I love seeing kids improve, smile, celebrate goals, and pick each other up after losses. That’s why I started. That’s why I’m trying to stay. If anyone else is feeling like this, please know you’re not on your own — and if sharing this helps even one person feel supported, then it’s worth it. Grassroots football matters. Our kids matter. And so do we. 💚⚽

Our latest two new Dons fans, Anthony and his youngest son who live just off Haydons Road. Anthony’s grandfather played international football in goal for Holland so they were very impressed with the Ajax silver windmill in the museum and left with tickets for Port Vale tomorrow!
