There’s a 2nd flush of the blewit mushrooms out just now. We got some in November, and Vérène found these in the same place in the Kilpatrick Hill today. Friends in Fife also reporting a 2nd flush. It’s this relatively warm weather.

My small Dexter cattle wouldn't qualify as 'megafauna', but they do fulfil some of the same ecological functions, and are the best option going here in West Cork. Managed right, they're SO much more nature-friendly than sheep. I reckon they look pretty cool, too!

@IrishRainforest Both a symbol of death and a saver of life (Taxol, derived from Pacific yew is an effective chemotherapy treatment and is on the WHO's list of essential medications).

The unmistakable reddish bark of a yew. Such a special tree. With a potential lifespan of thousands of years, longer than any other native species, yew conjures the mind-boggling immensity of ecological time. Our own lives are mere blips by comparison. 🌎

@lukeming @FineGael Interesting that 'well-being' initiatives are often used in place of robust worker support systems like unions in the corporate world. Totally individualises responsibility for mental and physical health, while abdicating collective/state duty of care.

This is no surprise. @finegael are always talking about well-being while supporting an economic model that achieves the opposite.

My friend Abood is doing really important work here. Mutual aid groups can have a huge impact.
