The number of Christians in China is already higher than the members of the communist party. While the Chinese Communist Party announced 100.27 million members at the end of 2024, independent estimates point to 120 to 160 million Christians in the country in 2025-2026, taking into account the house churches operating outside of state control. Experts like sociologist Fenggang Yang project that the number of Christians may have reached 160 million in 2025 and 247 million by 2030, which would make China the nation with the largest Christian population in the world.
