Confused on people wondering if the Sox are going to trade Mune/Montgomery/other good players on this team?
It’s year 4 of the rebuild, most of our top prospects are in AA, AAA, or here. If you have a good player at the position, you keep them no matter what

- TLR / Grifol didn’t help at all with the second point. That’s when things started going really south
- Hahn paid all of the core too early not knowing the injuries were going to occur, and then didn’t try to supplement the lineup when they did

The issues weren’t just Sox ineptitude. The scandals played probably a minimal role tbh
The bigger issues, in general, were 1) They couldn’t stay healthy. Compounding injuries affect even the best players, and 2) Once the ship starting sinking, they truly didn’t care anymore

I think looking back on it, the vibe of this team completely changed once Teel and Montgomery came up last year

Colson Montgomery was in the Arizona Complex League at this time a year ago. Now he’s one of the centerpieces of the White Sox turnaround. Really happy for him.

@SheetsGig32 @JaredCWS His likely ceiling is a 2.0 WAR player or utility guy. It’s valuable in the right context, but I don’t think he’d develop effectively into that role here

@SheetsGig32 @JaredCWS That’s the thing - Gonzalez is more likely to bust than not given his MiLB career. He has a lower ceiling than any of the other guys.
We can trade him now for value, or risk DFAing him if he busts and get nothing. He has more value and deserves a shot at the MLB, just not here

This is year 4 in the system and he’s just now finding his stride and it’s in AAA (a hitter’s dream). He’s more valuable as a trade piece than risking him busting in the majors

Former first rounder, just now finding his stride, and middle infielder who we have several in the system
Either he has to change positions / become a utility guy to come to Chicago and then we risk him not figuring it out here
