Nightingale has raised five banners in three years (MSU hadn't raised a single banner since 2007) and yet the dumbest people you know want him fired. Listening to these people will be the worst part of this long off-season.

@Rickwho55 the more modern pull off the toe shot will be hard for girls to execute with a normal weighed puck, so using something rly light can help them feel the right motion initially

@JhanHky Hi Jack. I have young girls that play hockey. They are still using the blue puck but will move up to the black puck next season. Occasionally they do their own shooting practice at home. Should they stay with the blue puck or use the black one next season?

This was a slow choke-out game where Mike Macdonald knew victory was nearly inevitable as long as he didn't take undue chances. Made the game less exciting, but victory more inevitable. Really easy to score three points at a time when the other team has 78 yards through three quarters!
Damon Amendolara@DamonAmendo

This Super Bowl win by Mike Macdonald is for all the over-caffeinated coaches who can’t help but go for it on 4th down and find FGs and level-headed game management so reprehensible.

Just watched all the Seattle defensive pressures against New England. Just a masterclass by the Seattle defense. New England had zero answers for anything. No hot adjustments. Maye looked lost. Even when he was able to avoid it his throws were poor. There was nothing easy in the pass game when NE was able to block up 4. One thing that stands out clearly is the speed of their defense. Even when rushing 4 the Seahawks defense played much faster and with more confidence. They more physical and forceful. Seattle was also showing man by running across with motions and then playing zone which confused the offense.

Jim Harbaugh has a ton of connections to this Minter/MacDonald Defensive DNA, including it's Godfather Wink Martindale. Not worried about Jim Harbaugh's ability to hire a good DC at all. He's always been good at that. The OC was the problematic part. Chargers will HAVE to get some blue chip talent (which they got away with in 2024-25 coz Minter), but they will have a top 12 Defense in the NFL next season without Minter. Book it.

There's probably gonna be a decent "feeling out" period for Herbert/McDaniel since Herbert is so stylistically different from Tua/other Shanahan QBs, and McDaniel's passing game is so different than Lombardi/Roman. But the ceiling here is very, very high.

@drewcarlsonhp We have a small studio rink in our ice arena. It’s our “pond hockey” in a non traditional hockey area. You can pay $100 per hour with a skills coach or $10 and play pick up games. It’s amazing the difference in fun, intensity, and creativity. Yet many parents insist on the coach

@Walmart is a giant scam. They screwed up a Christmas gift for us, told us on Christmas Eve that they would refund us, and days later have changed their mind. Do not shop there. Spread the bad word.

@HockeyThinkTank This one is hard coming from a non-traditional hockey area. MHR really does help us schedule comparable competition.

Over the past week, I've been told stories from two people that have worked in the NHL about youth hockey and My Hockey Rankings...and they're too crazy not to share. 1. There was a U16 game where a team was down by two goals late in the third period. The coach of the team that was losing yelled for his goalie to come to the bench for the extra attacker. But the goalie would not come to the bench. The coach started screaming at the goalie to come but the goalie stayed in the crease disobeying his coach. The team ended up losing, and after the game the coach confronted the goalie asking him why he didn't come to the bench. The goalie told the coach that if they lost by 3 goals it would really hurt their ranking in My Hockey Rankings so he didn't want to risk it. Wild. 2. There was a 14u team that was in a tournament out east. Their team made the consolation game of the tournament, but the team that they were supposed to play against refused to play them in the consolation game because it would hurt their My Hockey Ranking. So they played an intrasquad scrimmage against each other since the other team refused to play. Traveled hundreds of miles for the tournament and earned a spot in the consolation game...but didn't get the opportunity to play because of it. **A 16 year old that refuses to listen to his coach and a 14 year old team that refuses to play against another team in a tournament because it would potentially hurt their team ranking. @MYHockeyRanking was started so teams from non-traditional areas can find meaningful competition. Not this stuff. Both of these stories are indicative of the youth hockey culture prevalent today where rankings and ego supercede development and growth. We need to be better than this.

How can we constrain a defender in hockey? 🏒 Flipping the stick or playing with no stick is an obvious answer, one that has been used for decades, but can we come up with any other ideas?
Transforming Basketball@transformbball

1-on-1 Constrained Defender Instructions:  1. Offense starts outside the 3-point line in triple threat or with a live dribble.  2. Defense starts an arm distance away with 1 hand behind their back.  3. Live when offense attacks. Defense is trying to get a stop with only 1 hand.

Changing Sides as a Principle of Play Play 4v4 with Slot Line drawn on ice Offensive team must pass or skate across the line on a designated clock Every 3, 5 or 7 seconds Rep ends as soon as side change clock expires
Drew Carlson@drewcarlsonhp

Incentivize multiple side changes in one possession with an SSG Here's one we experimented with today 3v3 +1 extra player who is 'all-time offense' Each skating or passing side change in a possession is worth +1 This clip in our SSG possession would be a 4-point goal
