It’s been entertaining discussing the rookie of the year debate with Maverick fans the last few days — even if they think I’m an analytics nerd who doesn’t know what I’m talking about. I don't take anything to heart on Twitter.
Can’t remember the last time a ROY debate has been this close or spirited.
It’s apparent the Hornets need more fans, they stand no chance against #Mffl on this app 😂.
I want to ask the Mavericks fans who see this as a serious question.
If Flagg led Kon in every single advanced metric, would you say they shouldn’t be used in debates?

Last season, Nico Harrison traded a generational offensive superstar and defended the trade by saying “defense wins championships”
This season, the Mavericks gave up 125 points in their season opener, so as a reporter I asked Jason Kidd what went wrong defensively. He — and I do quote — said “it starts offensively”
The Mavs also traded one of the NBA’s best passers last season. A lack of passing the ball was a huge issue last night.
Interesting times, man. That’s all I gotta say.

I had an interesting exchange with Jason Kidd tonight. Me: This is a team that’s built on defense. You guys gave up 125 points tonight. Just overall, what went wrong on the defensive end? Kidd: Our offense. It starts offensively. We gotta be better offensively, that will help our defense. Me: Earlier you mentioned you guys had trouble creating shots for others. How can you guys get better at that? Kidd: We didn’t have trouble. We just didn’t pass the ball. Easy fix, just make a play for a teammate.
