I’ve just about gotten rid of all the smoke from the (lovely job) of lighting last night’s Easter Vigil Mass fire. Off to Mass again this glorious morning. Happy Easter to all!

For all the talk of doom and decline, we had standing room only at our church today. A very happy Easter!

Had more aggression in the past 24hrs for my views on gas than I generally do for talking about antisemitism. Been called a c*nt multiple times. All because I disagree with some people on gas market fundamentals. Crazy stuff.

@jonathanbfine There's a long family tradition, in which I acquiesce, of going by our middle name. Amazing really it took hundreds of years to get to a wife - mine - who said 'that's silly, we're not doing that'

I use my middle name when I publish so that my writing is solely attributable to me but don’t use it online so that my tweets can reflect poorly on the other Jonathan Fines.
David Austin Walsh@DavidAstinWalsh

I've developed a pretty thick skin over the years, but the one thing that still pisses me off is when people make fun of me for using my middle name. The *only* reason I go by David Austin Walsh is that David Walsh is an incredibly common name.

👇 This is what effective Opposition looks like. 👇 This is happening because the Conservative Party fought and will continue to fight for our North Sea Oil and Gas Industry. 💪 We changed the debate. We forced this decision. We fight on. 🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

If fossil fuels are a roller coaster, which they emphatically are, and if we will still be using fossil fuels for ‘decades to come’, which has been the UK government’s position, then logically a strategy for fossil fuels is a necessity: they won’t take care of themselves.

Really rude @Pret_uk at @TrainCoventry from the manager and staff member . Never going back truly , shouting over to each other so I couldn’t hear my mobile convo - and the staff member asking me to lower my voice as a paid customer on my mobile as I sat there .

@iainmartin1 @StewartWood Very strange. And declining production due to fiscal/regulatory policy is the exact point we have been making. No one is trying to hide decline. I look forward to their analysis of production from the Norwegian Continental Shelf during the same period.

In the Tory years between 2010 & 2024: seven rounds of licensing for new oil & gas fields, hundreds of new contracts issued. The result: about 36 days’ worth of energy output. theguardian.com/business/2026/…

(1/3) Campaign Win! ✅ I’m delighted that the Government has today announced that they will pass Philomena’s Law! 💚☘️ This is a bill I introduced to Parliament exactly a year ago to deliver justice for 13,000 survivors of Ireland’s Mother and Baby Homes living in Britain …

Our Chief Executive Tara Singh has written in the Telegraph today setting out why it’s time to take energy out of the culture wars, and how the UK will be stronger, safer and less exposed if it produces more home-grown energy of every kind ✍ In the article, she sets out how renewables are now the fastest, cheapest and most effective way to reduce Britain’s exposure to volatile fossil-fuel markets, and why any serious energy policy will continue to accelerate their deployment⚡ The message is clear: 📢 Prioritise renewables, because they now offer the best route to lasting energy security. Britain does not need the ongoing ideological argument about energy. It needs a practical one. We should back what works. And what works is more home-grown energy, with clean power leading the way 💪 📰 telegraph.co.uk/business/2026/…

Cheltenham is a brilliant festival and a melting pot of Irish and English punters joined together by the love and joy of racing. 100% convinced that the journalist had their perspective (and copy) made up before they went there. Sad they can’t just enjoy the fun.
The Observer@ObserverUK

Cheltenham festival is a reflection of Britain as a fractured isle. A day out to the Gloucestershire racetrack is like an episode of The Only Way is Essex, populated by people who believe they would star in an episode of Peaky Blinders.
