UPDATE on this morning's incident at Spadina and King...
· Around 8 a.m., a garbage truck bin hit the overhead infrastructure southbound on Spadina south of King.
· Damage to the streetcar infrastructure was significant.
· TTC crews are on scene and will remain there around the clock in order to 1) fully assess the damage to wires and poles and 2) affect necessary repairs.
· All available streetcar overhead infrastructure crews will be deployed to work on this.
· We will need to close the intersection in order to carry out this work as safely, quickly, and thoroughly as possible.
· Full road closure area is Spadina Ave. between Front St. and Adelaide St. and King St. between Charlotte St. and Brant St.
· Once the repairs are done, we will need to test and commission the area to ensure it’s safe for service.
· This is an extensive repair that we estimate could take until the end of the week to complete.
· We will, of course, work to shorten that timeline if possible.
· In the meantime, these are the diversions:
504 King/508 Lake Shore
· Westbound on King, north on York St. to Queen St. west to Shaw St. south to King St.
· Eastbound on King to Shaw St., east on Queen St., south on Spadina Ave. to Adelaide St., eastbound on Adelaide to Charlotte, south to King.
510 buses will divert via Front St., Bathurst St. and Queen St. both ways.
· Those in the impacted area west of Spadina are advised to use Queen St. or Bathurst St. to access service. East of Spadina the best option is Queen St.
· Wheel-Trans customers in areas without direct access to service can request door-to-door service as needed.

@DisrespectedThe The problem with common sense is that it actually isn’t common at all
English

@OccTranspo Its NOT maintenance, they corrected their memo. The shut down is for signalling integration work to favilitate the extensions. It makes sense to do maintenance at the same time, but that is a benefit, not the reason for the closure

I have been quiet all week - as I've been on site at @GCREinnovation in Wales all week. Our electrificaiton testing demo - is up and running. This is not a render, but a timelapse video from yesterday.

@RideauElvis @rail613 @OccTranspo @OC_Transpo These past two weekends were announced in spring as adding ballast (routine throughout lifetime of use and most necessary in first years) and track grinding.

We've been in monthly maintenance since July 15th-28th, when we had a full 2-week closure.
- July 15-28
- Sep 29
- Oct 5, 19, 20, 26, 27
- Nov 2, 3

⚠️Reminder: O-Train Line 1 will not run between Tunney’s Pasture and Blair stations on Saturday, November 2 and Sunday, November 3 due to maintenance activities. Here is what you can expect: octranspo.com/en/news/articl…

@mirgray @rail613 @OccTranspo @OC_Transpo I am not saying you are wrong. My issue is with OCT calking it maintenance when it is Stage 2 connections and interfaces.
Also, even the tunnel leaks are not maintenance, those are construction deficiencies under the Contract.
I appreciate its all disruptive.

@rail613 @RideauElvis @OccTranspo @OC_Transpo I believe we haven't had a month with full weekend service (no planned maintenance on any weekend trip) since April. But I'm afraid to check in case it's longer.
English

@rail613 Ballast moves constantly, under load, from weather conditiond, vibration etc.
Freight lines need less ballast maintenance and less grinding as passenger comfort is not an issue. Also, the Project Agreement requires the teack to be maintained to Class 5
English

Ballast must adjusted / tamped annually or so on every mainline railway as it settles, collects dirt/weeds. OttawaLRT maintenance is no different. Rail grinding is annual or so also, especially with tight curves

The Ottawa LRT was closed all weekend. Rail grinding that should have been completed years ago, but they hid reports, and denied issues. Already having to shore up ballasts is disturbing. Is Tremblay to Hurdman safe, or a disaster in the making? Is St. Laurent station safe?
