@WEschenbach The blockade is not legal. See repeated rulings by the ICJ, UN General Assembly, etc.

@RideoutTim I just showed it is legal under international law, complete with citations to the relevant documents. Don't like it? Change the law, but in the meantime, stop beclowning yourself. It's embarrassing. w.

Can people PLEASE stop whining about the Israelis stopping vessels in international waters that are attempting to breach their blockade? It's 100% legal under international law for Israel to do that. The authority to board ships attempting to breach a maritime blockade in international waters derives from customary international law governing naval warfare, codified in the San Remo Manual on International Law Applicable to Armed Conflicts at Sea (1994). Paragraph 98 of the San Remo Manual states that merchant vessels believed on reasonable grounds to be breaching a blockade may be captured, and paragraph 118 establishes that belligerent warships have the right to visit and search merchant vessels outside neutral waters where there are reasonable grounds for suspecting they are subject to capture. Paragraph 146(f) explicitly authorizes capture of neutral merchant vessels that are breaching or attempting to breach a blockade. These provisions apply to blockade enforcement on the high seas, which is international waters by definition. San Remo Manual on International Law Applicable to Armed Conflicts at Sea iihl.org/wp-content/upl… IHL Treaties - San Remo Manual on Armed Conflicts at Sea, 1994 ihl-databases.icrc.org/en/ihl-treatie… Legal Framework for Blockade Enforcement A blockade is established in international waters by necessity because its purpose is to prevent vessels from reaching the blockaded coastline. Paragraph 96 of the San Remo Manual specifies that the force maintaining the blockade may be stationed at a distance determined by military requirements, meaning enforcement zones extend well beyond territorial waters. When a vessel sails toward a blockaded area with intent to breach it, the blockading party has the right to intercept that vessel on the high seas. This interception authority is destination-based rather than cargo-based—the fact that a vessel is bound for a blockaded port is sufficient ground for capture regardless of what the vessel carries. The Madleen Incident and the Gaza Naval Blockade lieber.westpoint.edu/madleen-incide… The San Remo and the Newport Manuals on the Law of Naval Warfare lieber.westpoint.edu/san-remo-newpo… Don't like it? Then change the law, but don't complain when your precious flotilla gets stopped and you get arrested in international waters. Even Stevie Wonder could see that coming. w.

@RBehrouzDO The US does not have the ability to overthrow the Iran government.

This exact same set of proposals, essentially verbatim, has been going back and forth on the table for weeks since the untimely ceasefire. These terms and proposals need to be made public for US lawmakers and the American people to witness clearly that the Islamic Republic regime refuses to show any flexibility in diplomacy. As the Secretary of State and the President’s NSA, one would expect @SecRubio to see through this duplicitous operation undertaken by the regime and advise the President accordingly. The regime will not budge on the negotiating table; it needs to be overthrown.

Iran has submitted a new proposal to the United States to end the war. The terms include five demands: U.S. troops leaving areas close to Iran, the U.S. paying war reparations, lifting sanctions on Iran, releasing Iran's frozen assets, and ending the U.S. blockade. - Reuters

If the reason the military campaign against Iran did not resume today is because the Gulf states feared they would come under Iranian attack, then the war is over and Iran won it. If the Gulf states are so fearful that they capitulate and won’t support taking out the aggressor, then Iran has the leverage and holds the cards, now and in the future. Iran started this war. It’s time to finish the job and bring it to a successful end.

Ming Yang wanted this factory in Scotland, but Westminster blocked the £1.5bn investment. Now the jobs are going to Spain. Scotland has watched opportunity after opportunity go elsewhere because of Westminster. It’s time we go our own way. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 reuters.com/sustainability…

You are completely wrong. You nationalise the same way the 1945 Labour Government did. The water etc shareholders surrender their shares and are given new 30 year Gilts instead paying say 2.5%. The gilt market isn't involved, nor is any cash. Only cost is the interest.
Not that Elon.@Eggplant_Elon

1/ Thought experiment doing the rounds in my head this morning. Burnham replaces Starmer. He walks into Number 10 with the Manchester accent and the real Labour framing. He announces the renationalisation of water, energy, rail, and grid. All of it. Funded by, well, vibes mostly. Here’s how the next twelve months actually play out. 👇🧵

Slashing social security and winter fuel payments were nowhere in his general election manifesto. Supporting a genocide is the opposite of nice, and his authoritarian behaviour is completely anti-democratic.

I just am mystified as to how these folk say "Starmer is a decent, honest, sincere man". He isn't! He stabbed Corbyn in the back, put forward 10 pledges in order to get elected Labour leader, and lied about every single one. He ruthlessly gerrymandered Labour MP candidates.

@Anniepop2027 @LBC @BBCNews So why doesn't he actually do something? Nationalise water? Nope. Nationalise electricity? Nope. Build 1 million council houses? Nope.

Starmer DESERVES his mandate for 5 years and to be judged only then. It’s undemocratic to do otherwise. He planned for 5 years to deliver: the Labour MPs have shafted him. Stand with Starmer @LBC @BBCNews

OK — you tell me — how do you nationalise energy, water and ‘housing’ (whatever that means) without borrowing tens of billions more to do so?
The Red Resistance (Keith Davies)@resistance_red

@afneil Are you happy with ANYONE trying to do something different Andrew. He has been a big success in Manchester. Maybe he knows something. You've derided any new ideas as the status quo fails catastrophically. Do you want the far right spivs with their huge medical bills policies?

Scottish football lost today. Celtic could not have won the league without the dodgy VAR decision v Motherwell. Hearts gave their all, defeated the Old Firm five times & Derek McInnes was magnificent. But what chance have non-Old Firm challengers got with such Old Firm biases?

The xyzmaps.com web site is now live on Shopify. Still a few things to sort out but this should give you a much better map buying experience and a very quick and simple checkout. There is a full range of special Scottish maps, as well as World, Continental, etc.
