I have been trying to make games on my own since I was 21. I am 45 now.
All my games financially failed.
However, this time it's different.
Golel is a first-person, turn-based RPG.
You can try out the Demo at Steam. Search "Golel".

@PeterP_1985 @RE_Games You will want to change one thing, I promise. It'll be the same thing as everyone else. 😊

Finished my first playthrough of Resident Evil Requiem.
Not often I finish a game and immediately want to play it again and I will be, both on PS5 Pro and PC again.
Honestly can't think of anything I would change.
Absolutely fantastic

@podopriguez Guaranteed spend for potential recoup is risk by definition - I don't understand why some people seem to think that ROI is in any way guaranteed in the games industry. Or any, for that matter.

It’s easy to see publishers as greedy: why wouldn’t you invest $250k to make $500k?
Two reasons. For larger publishers, even doubling or tripling that kind of investment often doesn’t cover their overhead.
For smaller publishers, the issue is different. If you sign ten such games, a couple will do well, a few will barely break even, and some will fail, despite your best efforts. The math only works at scale, and even then, margins are thin.
The way forward is a different kind of publisher: nimble, flexible, low-cost, with practical approaches to marketing and production.
This makes it possible to succeed with projects that wouldn’t work under traditional publishing economics, where high recoup costs raise the bar too much.
That’s the model we’re building at Forklift Interactive. We invest up to $300k, focusing on systems-driven games with deep, long-tail potential, and ensuring that devs always get revenue from the first dollar.

An indie asking for $250,000 is 'a drop in the bucket' says Tunic's publisher, but indies are in a 'survival' era because companies think that 'isn't profitable enough' to fund pcgamer.com/gaming-industr…

@FreyaHolmer Really cool toy. The best games have one at their core. Respect.

@SquaredApe "Cargo cult game design" typically only works by accident. As you say, if you don't truly understand the mechanics, you won't know when and when not to use them.
English

@Serellan Guaranteed. In fact, I'd wager that the devs and publishers that have the highest hit rates are also the ones that are quickest to identify dead end prototypes that no amount of effort will turn into full, high quality games, and never tell anyone they were ever being made.

@ZoidCTF @CallMeTasteless Same. I was so sure it was cheating somehow.

@CallMeTasteless The blob competitive game puzzle took me forever to beat. I hate it.
English

This is wild! I remember being stuck in this game for ages as a kid. I couldn’t figure out some of the puzzles.
I actually went back and beat it over a weekend about 7 years ago. It felt great to finally finish it off.
Crazy to see it’s coming back!

Note how in #ResidentEvilRequiem, only Grace is prompted to choose which inventory item to use on which lock or puzzle. Leon's focus on action extends to even this - no thinking required.

@alfkkifine This is why so many of us do martial arts (and other sports, I'm sure). The rate of hugs and back pats (some of them tapouts) per minute goes through the roof for the duration of the session. All for the price of a little money and the odd bloody nose. 😊
English

Do you know that the average single man can go months or even years without non-sexual physical touch. No hugs. No hand-holding. No comforting pat on the back?
The only time many men experience gentle touch is from a barber or a paid sex worker.
This condition is called 'Skin Hunger,' and it leads to severe depression and anxiety. Society has labeled male touch as 'predatory' or 'creepy,' so men have learned to starve themselves of human contact just to make women feel comfortable. They are dying of loneliness in a crowded room.
k@alfkkifine
what opinion about men do you have that makes people feel like this???
English

A sorely underappreciated aspect of Resident Evil, most recently RE9, is how sandboxy the games have actually become. Optional cutscenes, enemy behaviours and more, depending on player choices large, medium and small, with a bit of chaos thrown in. It's amazing. #RE9
