PEACE WAS A STRATEGIC MOVE In 1979, Egypt signed a peace treaty with Israel (Camp David Accords). At the time, most of the Arab world was furious. Egypt was isolated politically for years. But Egypt got something very important in return: Sinai Peninsula back. Secure borders. U.S. military and economic support. No major wars for over four decades. While others kept fighting wars, Egypt made a deal and focused on running their country. LOOK AT THE COUNTRIES AROUND EGYPT Now look at the region over the past 20 years: Libya collapsed into militias and civil war. Sudan has had repeated civil wars. Syria destroyed itself in civil war. Yemen collapsed into proxy war. Gaza cycles through war constantly. Egypt sits right in the middle of all this… And is still standing with over 100 million people. That’s not luck. REAL WORLD BENEFITS Because of cooperation and agreements: ENERGY Israel sells natural gas to Egypt in multi-billion dollar deals. Egypt uses it for electricity and exports. SECURITY Heavy intelligence cooperation and joint operations against ISIS and jihadist groups in the Sinai. ECONOMY Billions in U.S. aid linked to the peace treaty. Suez Canal brings in huge revenue. Tourism exists because the country is relatively stable. Simple translation: No rockets from Egyptian territory. No constant wars with Israel. No massive regional war dragging Egypt in. No collapse into a failed state. THE PART PEOPLE DON’T LIKE TALKING ABOUT Egypt has deep history with Gaza and the Palestinian issue. Egypt borders Gaza today. But Egypt’s leadership made a decision a long time ago: Egypt comes first. Stability comes first. Survival comes first. Not emotions. Not regional politics. Not endless wars.
