We’ve just run out of steam - simple as that really. Injuries / fatigue probably haven’t helped and the season maybe proving 6 weeks too long for a few new to the level. We’ve gone from one of the most free-scoring sides in the league to completely shot-shy, which tells a story…

There is a pattern hidden across the map of England. “-gate” “-by” “-thorpe” Names like Stonegate, Whitby, or Scunthorpe are over a thousand years old. But they are not English in origin. They are the imprint of ancient Viking settlements. “Gate” does not mean a barrier - It comes from the Old Norse word gata, meaning a road or street. That is why cities like York still have Stonegate, Coppergate, and Micklegate. “-by” meant a farm or settlement. Towns like Grimsby, Whitby, and Derby were once Viking communities, places where Norse settlers lived and worked. “-thorpe” meant a smaller outlying village. These were often new settlements on the edge of older ones, carved out of the landscape by incoming settlers. A thousand years later, and the language of the Vikings remains written across the map of England. Follow @oaksandlions for more interesting posts like this. @HistoricEngland #EnglishHistory #Vikings

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧 On the West African coast, there is a city called Freetown. Its name tells you everything. In 1787, British abolitionists founded it as a home for freed slaves and Black loyalists from Britain. They called it the Province of Freedom. When Britain abolished the slave trade in 1807, Freetown became the base of the West Africa Squadron. For sixty years, the Royal Navy patrolled 3,000 miles of coastline. 1,600 slave ships captured. Every person freed was brought here. 150,000 people. The coast was deadly. Malaria. Yellow fever. Dysentery. Two thousand British sailors died on this station. They knew the risk when they volunteered. They went anyway. Around the 150,000 people brought to Freetown, a city grew. Schools. Churches. Courts. One of those rescued was a child pulled from a slave ship by the Royal Navy. His name was Samuel Ajayi Crowther. Educated in Freetown. Translated the Bible into Yoruba. Became the first African ordained as an Anglican bishop. Then went back to West Africa to negotiate the treaties that ended the trade on land. The trade that tried to take him, he helped close. 🇬🇧 One city. One story. Built entirely from conscience. Ordinary British people built it. Help us keep this history alive. 👇 Be Part Of Us: 👉proudofus.co.uk 🙏 Be Proud Of Us. 🇬🇧

HT: 3-0. Fylde 3, Darlington 0. DFC's starting XI on social media before the game mistakenly only named ten players - they've played like they have seven or eight. It's been a training session for Fylde, attack v defence, and was 3-0 after 23 minutes.

@JamesLucasIT My older brother doing his National Service was sent to the Pacific in the 1950s to witness the nuclear tests . There was no information or protection provided. He and his family had numerous health problems afterwards..

Of course, a considerable part of my time covering Pools was spent banned from Victoria Park and at loggerheads with Raj Singh.

Following a company restructure, there is no longer a position for me covering Pools and I am therefore being made redundant. I still have a few more weeks in the role and during that time I will do my utmost to provide the best possible coverage.

BBQ RULES: We are about to enter the BBQ season. Therefore it is important to refresh your memory on the etiquette of this sublime outdoor cooking activity . When a man volunteers to do the BBQ the following chain of events are put into motion: (1) The woman buys the food. Ensuring she is educated in the correct cuts of steak to purchase. (2) The woman makes the salad, prepares the vegetables, and makes dessert. (3) The woman prepares the meat for cooking, places it on a tray along with the necessary cooking utensils and sauces, and takes it to the man who is lounging beside the grill - beer in hand. (4) The woman remains outside the compulsory three meter exclusion zone where the exuberance of testosterone and other manly bonding activities can take place without the interference of the woman. Here comes the important part: (5) THE MAN PLACES THE MEAT ON THE GRILL. (6) The woman goes inside to organise the plates and cutlery. (7) The woman comes out to tell the man that the meat is looking great. He thanks her and asks if she will bring another beer while he flips the meat Important again: (8) THE MAN TAKES THE MEAT OFF THE GRILL AND HANDS IT TO THE WOMAN. (9) The woman prepares the plates, salad, bread, utensils, napkins, sauces, and brings them to the table. (10) After eating, the woman clears the table and does the dishes And most important of all: (11) Everyone PRAISES the MAN and THANKS HIM for his cooking efforts. (12) The man asks the woman how she enjoyed ' her night off ', and, upon seeing her annoyed reaction, concludes that there's just no pleasing some women. 🤣🤣
