Have you ever actually thought about why all these entertainment platforms are free?
It is because you aren't the customer. You are the product. Why do you think some of these apps go as far as giving you rewards or begging you to stay on? It is because you aren't a user; you are fuel. Every extra minute you spend scrolling is another minute they keep the fire burning. Every hour you spend hooked is another turn of the advertising machine.
Free stuff is never about charity. Free is just the foreplay for the real transaction. If they aren't taking money out of your pocket, they are taking something else off your back. They are taking your attention, your emotions, and the only thing you can never get back which is your time. That is why the free stuff costs the most. It doesn't negotiate on price; it negotiates with your life.
You think you are just watching a few videos, but you are actually trading your life's balance for a string of data in someone else's database. The platforms are going public, the creators are getting rich, and the advertisers are harvesting. Meanwhile, you are just slowly wasting away under the excuse of relaxing. The most ironic part is that you still think you are getting a good deal. It is time to wake up.
