If you love no mow May, you're going to love no mow ever again. Mowing a lawn kills more wildlife than most people realize. A permanent 10x10 wild patch in one corner will host more species in five years than the rest of the lawn does in fifty. Grass that never gets cut becomes a meadow. Native wildflowers move in. Solitary bees dig nests in the bare patches between. Moths overwinter in the seed heads. Birds show up in fall to eat what's there. By year three, you've got a functioning ecosystem in a corner of your yard you weren't using anyway. Pick the least-useful spot. The one behind the shed. The corner by the fence nobody walks to. Mark it with a "Wildlife Habitat" sign to flex on your HOA. You don't need a prairie. You need the corner of the yard you were already ignoring to stop getting mowed.
