The day news of General Sani Abacha’s death broke, the entire country jubilated. Beyond his death in 1998, 🇳🇬 emerged from its dystopian era. The fear of mentioning his name in an Elelenwo beer parlor in port harcourt was a conscious feeling. Do your politics, but be sincere.🙏🏾

You have totally and completely lost your mind and this post of yours will go down in infamy as the most consequential one you ever made. What you have written today is way beyond politics and you have assaulted the senses and wounded the sensitivities of all those who lost their lives, liberty and loved ones during the struggle against fascism, dictatorship and military rule. To mock the memory of those that died fighting for democracy in the June 12th struggle and sacrificed their lives and liberty as members of NADECO in this way is unacceptable and unforgivable. Simply put it is despicable. The blood of all those that were killed by General Abacha and his goons, whom you served, shall speak against you for the rest of your life and their spirits shall haunt you from now till eternity. For this reason alone you stand accursed before the world, you shall NEVER become President of our nation and, as from today, your dwindling star shall be totally eclipsed and fade away until it is no more. God will perfect it and the blood of Jesus will seal it! (FFK)
Peter Obi@PeterObi

Yesterday defenders of democracy, today's destroyers, What a shame. What an irony of history, that the acclaimed defenders of democracy and human rights who claimed to have fought for democracy during the era of General Sani Abacha now find themselves worse than the man they opposed. Today, General Sani Abacha, once presumed face of oppression, will be remembered as seemingly more democratic and more respectful of human rights than the so-called champions of activism from the NADECO days. Power indeed reveals character. A New Nigeria is POssible. -PO

STATEHOUSE PRESS RELEASE Why President Tinubu addressed the victims of the Plateau attacks at the airport President Tinubu's itinerary for Thursday included two main engagements: receiving the Chadian President, Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, and proceeding to Iperu, Ogun State. After Governor Caleb Mutfwang's briefing, President Tinubu suspended the trip to Ogun. Overnight, the Presidential Villa made arrangements for the visit to Jos, with presidential assets quickly deployed. However, the President could not postpone the scheduled visit by the Chadian leader. The President of Chad was at the Presidential Villa for a very important bilateral meeting focused on strengthening security collaboration between the two countries. The meeting ran longer than expected, affecting President Tinubu’s scheduled departure for Jos. Upon arrival in Jos, the visit encountered some logistical challenges. While the road distance from the airport to Jos township is approximately 40 minutes, the runway does not support night flights due to the absence of navigational aids. The constraints made it unfeasible to drive into town, meet victims for on-the-spot assessment and return to the airport before dusk. Consequently, state and federal officials decided to bring representatives of the affected community to a hall adjoining the airport so the President could meet with them promptly while adhering to flight restrictions. Among the people in the hall were the Minister of Defence, the Chief of Army Staff and the Inspector General of Police, who had visited Rukuba, the epicentre of the conflict. President Tinubu deployed the high-level team to Rukuba, including the Senior Special Assistant on Community Engagement, to undertake critical groundwork on security and community engagement, with a view to stabilising the area before his arrival. Beyond expressing his condolences to the victims, President Tinubu’s objective was to engage with critical stakeholders in Plateau State on ending the recurring, decades-old conflict that has resulted in needless loss of lives and property. President Tinubu’s visit to Jos was not merely symbolic. It was a strategic, high-level engagement aimed at bringing all stakeholders together to address the root causes of conflict and insecurity in the state. He interacted with the victims, consoled them, and listened to them. He also listened to local leaders and assured them that the federal government would deliver justice and end the cycle of violence. He promised the deployment of 5000 AI-enabled cameras to monitor the city and enhance the identification and arrest of troublemakers. Furthermore, the President invited the community leaders to Abuja for further talks on finding a lasting solution to the recurring violence in the state. The meeting, televised live, was solemn and reassuring, boosting residents' confidence. President Tinubu achieved the purpose of his visit, despite the naysayers' attempts to ridicule it. He dropped an unmistakable message: sustainable peace must be built with the people, not imposed on them. Bayo Onanuga Special Adviser to the President (Information and Strategy) April 3, 2026

Leadership Tussle: Nafiu Bala Resigns As ADC Chairman By Funke Ogunlolu The 2023 Gombe governorship candidate and former national deputy chairman of the African democratic congress. Nafiu Bala has tendered his letter of resignation after declaring himself as the interim national chairman of the party. In the letter Addressed to the former national chairman of the party, Ralph Nwosu, Bala stated that his resignation was to pave way for smooth and effective coalition as well as restructuring the party. Bala assured that he is not abandoning the party and ready to serve in any capacity but the former Gombe governorship candidate was silenced on the David Mark-led interim leadership. The announcement came after the official handing over of ADC to the former Senate President and his team by the former national executive committee on Wednesday. During his declaration as the national chairman, Bala had accused Mark-led interim leadership of the ADC of hijacking the party through unconstitutional means and warned of impending legal action to challenge what he described as a “total surrender” of the party’s structure to external political actors. The former deputy national chairman emphasized that the party’s constitution clearly outlines the processes for leadership succession and that, in line with those provisions, he was now assuming the position of interim national chairman. Leadership Without Compassion is Not Leadership During his visit to Benue State in June 2025, Bola Ahmed Tinubu stopped at the Government House but did not go to the actual scene where innocent Nigerians lost their lives. Similarly, yesterday in Jos, his engagement ended at the airport instead of at the affected communities. What happened in Plateau yesterday highlights a complete absence of leadership. True leadership requires presence, empathy, compassion, and a willingness to meet people where their pain truly lies. For citizens who have just lost loved ones, homes, and their sense of safety, being addressed from an airport tarmac is profoundly inadequate. This approach exacerbates the sense of abandonment already felt by innocent Nigerians who have endured repeated cycles of violence without meaningful protection or justice. Plateau deserves more than distant words; it requires urgent action and a clear commitment to ending the insecurity that continues to claim innocent lives. In such moments, leadership must not only be visible but also tangible—standing with victims, listening to survivors, and acknowledging the depth of their grief. If we truly desire a better Nigeria, we must demand leadership that is present, responsive, and responsible at all times. A new Nigeria is POssible. -PO

ABACHA IS BETTER THAN DEMOCRACY ACTIVISTS - PETER AGULU-JESUS OBI MY FIERY REACTION: 1. Abacha and Ken Saro-Wiwa: A friendship that ended in a Noose. Abacha may have been a dictator to all, but to Ken he was first a friend. Ken laughed through his trial, confident Abacha would save him. But little did he know the game was lost before he knew he was playing. Ken was dealing with a merciless dictator he named friend. "Does Abacha know?" - His final desperate words before execution. The answer came not in words, but in a signature. Abacha's own hand had signed the death warrant. When soldiers showed it to him, Saro-Wiwa cried "This must be fake!" A man who laughed boldly in court wept in disbelief at ink on paper. The hanging was not enough. Abacha demanded erasure. After the executions, the bodies of Saro-Wiwa and the Ogoni Nine were loaded onto a tipper and driven to a place called Bolokiri - where soldiers poured acid over them. Their bodies melted instantly, all nine of them dumped together into a single pit. They were buried at night in unmarked graves, with heavy military presence preventing anyone from approaching the cemetery. For many years, the exact location of their remains was unknown to their families and the public. Abacha did not just want him dead - it wanted him unfindable, his legacy untraceable, his path untrackable. A voice that had echoed across the world in fight for justice, fairness and equity, reduced to liquid in a pit with no name. BUT WHAT WAS KEN SARO WIWA's CRIME? Since Royal Dutch Shell struck oil on Ogoni lands in 1958, an estimated $30 billion worth of oil had been extracted. The Ogoni - some 550,000 farmers and fishermen - received little in return except a ravaged environment. Farmland once fertile turned to contaminated fields. Uncontrolled oil spills dotted the landscape like puddles of ooze the size of football fields. Ken's crime was asking: why should the land that feeds the nation devour its own children? For demanding justice, fairness and equity for his people, Abacha arrested Ken, sentenced him to death by hanging, extinguish life from his body by the noose, and in death his body wasn't spared torture or given the dignity of final respects, his remains was dissolved in acid and his family left to carry the burden of a father lost for no just cause. Ken Saro-Wiwa - writer, griot, conscience of a people - a man who chose words over weapons and paid with his life - Peter looked at this sacrifice, still wet with the blood of martyrdom, and called it worthless. And if that were not enough sacrilege for one mouth to carry, he elevated Abacha - the butcher, the acid- pourer, the unmarked grave- digger - above every man and woman who ever raised a voice, risked a freedom, or lost a life for democracy, for a fair society, for a just Nigeria. How desperately wicked can a Man be? How demonically inspired can Peter be? Must he be President if he does not possess the brain to prosecute his cause to a desired end? Why desecrate the struggles and sacrifice of our heroes on the altar of political desperation? Peter - Hear this and let it echo through every corridor where your ambition prowls: For this sacrilege, you will never become President. Not Vice President. Your name, if not mercifully forgotten, shall be spoken only in disdain and ignominy. No evil of this magnitude must be promoted among us. No man who spits on the graves of martyrs must be handed the keys to the house they died to build. 2. ABACHA AND SHEHU YAR'ADUA Shall I Begin? Good Morning Severally.
