Love bizarre Bicolour Sedge Caddisfly larvae scooting about in little green cases. Below, trails criss-cross Cut-Off Channel bed made by Brown Sedge caddisfly larvae & Lister's River Snails. See also Northern Caddisfly larvae eg Limnephilus flavicornis with case of shells. 22/25

On Saturday, found bones of extinct Steppe Bison (Bison priscus) from Pleistocene deposits of River Wissey, exposed in Cut-Off Channel at Wretton, 1km from Nattergal's High Fen. (Wolf & Woolly Rhino also found here). Thanks Tim Holt Wilson for setting me the mission! #MySwim 1/25

Back from the brink of extinction, there are now 3,000 wild European bison in Poland alone, and approximately 12,000 in Europe. A triumph of conservation.

My daily dose of Brown Trout. In Old Carr #ChalkStream. Wonder if enchantment with this fish is inherited; whereas Grandma was a skilled fly fisher for them, the trait in me is expressed thro' just wanting to hang out with them, in situ, doing their thing. #MySwim #Browntrout 1/6

@Riverflies Always a strong count on the Cald Beck in Cumbria, a rocky and quick flowing tributary of the Caldew 👍

#RiverflySpotlight The flat-bodied mayfly or stone-clinger. They have plate-like gills that are held out sideways & as their names suggest, a flattened body to help them cling to rocks. Do you find many in your surveys? If so, tell us where you are based and share some photos!
