It completely used no digital effects or green screens; it was done with actual stunts involving horses, chariots, and actors. This is one of the most spectacular and dangerous action sequences in the history of cinema. It lasts 10 minutes and was reported to cost 1 million dollars (equivalent to 10 million dollars adjusted for inflation). It took 1,000 people a year to carve the arena out of a quarry. There were over 10,000 extras, 80 horses, and 200 miles of racing. Miraculously, no serious injuries occurred.
